Hey out there! I have a kitten around 7 months old--- He has a really bad odor coming from his mouth! It is really really bad!!!!!!!! Also, has black stuff that is caked under his chin--- I think it could be due to fleas? But I did the Advantage and the fleas are gone--- so I thought!??!! Do you know what it is?? I scrap it off and it itches him too-- and then it comes back!!!!!!!!! Also, his breath is sooo bad-- he does have some red gums as some of my other cats but not this HORRIBLE BREATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP! Do i really need to get a teeth cleaning for him at 160$???? AHHH!

I think the black stuff under the chin is called 'cat acne'. Sometimes just brushing it gently will alleviate it and sometimes it may bleed. I don't think it is serious and I can usually get rid of it with gentle washing with Dawn. The mouth odor could be from a gastric problem, or infection. Maybe a food change or try brushing his mouth yourself. Gotta love our furchildren. Tina

I had a cat that had that black stuff , took her to vet and he gave me a cream thta cleared it up quick. The odor doesn't sound good so get to vet ASAP. I love my 4 footed kids as much as my 2 footed one.

Ok a few things: A. Do you use plastic, glass or ceramic bowls? Glass and ceramic are far better as they dont allow bactera to breed. Your kitty could have a bacterial infection on the *****feline acne) cleaning this with peroxide 2 times a day should help relieve it. B. At his age he should be finishing up with loosing his milk teeth. Sometimes they dont all fall out causing an infection and bad odor. You really ought to have a vet look at his teeth. 7 months is awful young to use ultrasonic cleaning. They really shouldnt need until they are a few years old. A good idea is start using a finger cot tooth brush and tooth paste made for pets. They hate it at first but will learn to live with it. Hope this helps a little bit. At least its a start.
