My 9 year old cat is losing his hair on his hip area and upper back legs, and now the base of his tail. He licks there constantly. I don't know if it's coming out because of his licking or if he's licking because it's coming out. He seems okay otherwise. But he's a long haired gray cat and this looks terrible. He does have asthma, but he always has, since birth. So, I don't think that has anything to do with it. Would like to hear from anyone else with similar issues. Thanks Kina 220/197/120

Kina, It could be allergies, anxiety, or something else. I would get the cat to the vet to find out what the problem is. If he's losing hair, it's time to get him checked out as that's not normal behavior as far as grooming goes. Good luck, Diann

Morgaine was four years old when it started with her. It would last through the summer months and stop during the winter. It had me puzzled. Then my daughter's oldest cat started this year, she's about 14 and she took her to the Vet and it turns out they have developed allergies. Just like human's, they can develop them at anytime. Her cat gets allergy shots during the summer now. I lost Morgaine this early summer and still miss her a lot. I hope I have given you an avenue to investigate. Good losing, Stes

I have a Russian Blue with a mostly bald spot on her back between her hips - it is bald because she licks there constantly - the vet gave me something to put on it to keep her from licking but it smelled horrible and my other kitty would then beat her up because she smelled bad. Anyway long story short mine was bald because she licked it alot....
