HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!

Hi everyone, My cat is almost 1 year old now. He has all his shots and was recently neutered. He does'nt spray or anything but in the morning around 5 am or so he'll come in our room and try to wake us up. He does most of the time by jumping from me to my husband on our chest, then he wants to play and for us to get up right then and there or else!! Now when I say or else I mean he will start to knock things over in our room and make us get up. I don't know what to do with him. I know he is spoiled rotten but this knocking things over has to stop. Please give me some ideas how to stop him from doing this. He's broke 2 lamps already Cheri

I can relate to your problem,I have one male cat who did the same kinds of things,Every night I had to lock him in the bathroom,that was years ago,he has calmed down considerably,in his old age.At that time someone had suggested that,i try to reset his clock,by feeding him as late in the morning as possible,he had been a stray,it was thought that who ever had him befor me was a very early riser,and got him into the habit of being fed at 4:30 am.This seemed to work ,but it took two months to get him to not crash into the room until 4:55am.I gave up and sent him to the bathroom,I felt bad at the time,but eventually ,this became his room,He would always be sleeping in the bathtub ,even when the door was open.I hope this helps.Darlilly

SO YOU ARETELLING ME TO LOCK HIM IN THR BATHROOM AND EVENTUALLY IT WILL STOP? Didn't he cry all night long though? That too will drive me crazy!!!!! ou know what I'll try it right, it can,t hurt right? I'll let you know how it turned out. Thankyou, Cheri

Well kinda sorta yes, he scratched at the door for two nights ,but he did finally just accept that it was his night room.I went to bed earlier than my husband,so he would put him in there as late as possible.I hope it works for you.Dar

Hi, I have a female maine coon--and she is very playful--She has a habit of pushing things off the dresser --night tables etc., I couldn't possibly lock her in the bathroom--I couldn't sleep knowing that she was locked up---The idea of waiting to feed you kitty late --sounds good--and as for the knocking things down--I took anything breakable and put them away--then spent four or five nights pretending to continue to sleep--when she didn't get a reaction--she finally stopped ! Now she comes to the bedroom--but she just curls up between mommy and daddy and waits until we get up! Be Blessed, Marian S.C.

Cheri, first, remember he's still a baby! in general, cats don't reach physical maturity until they are about 18 months old. He might be hungry, so giving him a little extra food at night is probably okay. second, you can try behaviour modification. i've used this with all my cats and it's worked on all of them except one. You can use a spray bottle with water, or if you're worried about getting things, and the kitten, wet, go to a computer store and get a can of compressed air. When kitty knocks something over, tell him, very loudly, NO, and then shoot some air or water at him. Just one good squirt. Do this each time he knocks something over. pretty soon, he'll stop knocking things over. oh, he'll also have a very strong aversion to the spray bottle or can of compressed air. i personally couldn't lock either of my guys up. they have free roam of my house and sleep with me at night, one next to me, the other on top of my pillow wrapped around my head like a big fur hat. enjoy your guy while he's young! they grow up too fast. jan

Jan, I do have a spray bottle of water and it really doesn't seem to bother him.LOL I'm telling you he's a spoiled BRAT!!!.I tell him NO very loudly and he'll stop but then start again as soon as I'm sleeping. Or check this out, he'll stand on my leggs when I'm sleeping and cry till I open my leggs.He loves to sleep between my leggs. (Wish hubby didLOLOL). When he was a little kitten he would sleep under my chin but as he got older he started to smother me cause he's so fat and very, very furry!! Very long hair. He has food at all times except in the morning he'll get a small can of Fancy feast and around 5:00pm same thing but there's always Kitten Chow and clean water. Honest to God he's worst than when my kids when they were little. SPOILED ROTTEN!!!!! Cheri P.S. My Smokey also likes to wrap himself around my head but he's so furry I can'tT STAND IT AND HE WEIGHS ALMOST 18LBS. HE'S HUGE!! THE DOC SAID HE'LL BE AROUND 20 TO 22LBS. AS AN ADULT!!

Ok you just made my day with your story because it is MY story too(well I don't have a husband so he just jummps on me)My Tigger is a spoiled brat too, but I just gave up I let him do whatever he want's to, my Mom doesn't like it at all and doesn't spoil him but my niece and I we are just so in love with him that we let him step on us, I addmit it Good Luck!
