Linda please do alot of research before you decide to back out. ( I know you are and have) I beg you b/c the surgery has saved my 54 yr old mothers life! She has been diabetic for 30 years so she was very young. Was also on 11 meds b/c of diabetes making her other organs fail. She was taking 130 units of humilin insulin 70/30 and now is on only 4 meds and I think 20 units a day. She also went into severe kidney failure b/c of diabetes. She was to have dialysis or transplant in 18 months as her function was only 20%. One month after surgery her kidneys started to function normal! That was gods work b/c you know diabetic kidney failure is not reversible.Jan 2005 she weight 300 lbs and is 5'5''. She started to lose weight on her own and lost 40 lbs and has lost 40 lbs with surgery since dec 2nd 2005. Please consider the surgery. My mom has every complication a diabetic could have, eyes, neuropathy, lost a finger,a toe and part of foot due to ulcers, kidney failure, heart stents and so on. And she did and is doing absolutely wonderful! I feel like I will have my mom with me alot longer than I had expected! I thank God and thank him for leading her to this surgery. Good luck to you! Hi Misty, I just got back from our long vacation to VA and am going through my emails. I am so grateful that I read your postings. I almost had tears in my eyes when I read about your Mom and what she has been through health wise. While on our vacation, everytime we ate out, I kept saying to myself, "well, I won't be able to eat like this again"... so I really needed to read your story. It put me back on a reality check! Of course, there were the times when I got totally exhausted and ached all over after a day of walking...and thought, boy, if only I was slimmer, I wouldn't feel so bad. I have my next appt with the wls dr next Tues. I have had all of my pre-ops done. The only thing that might postpone my wls is that I've had bladder cancer and I go into my urologist on June 5 to get examined to make sure the cancer hasn't returned. Then I will have to have 3 more bcg treatments (one a week) to keep the cancer from returning. I've also had one kidney removed due to urether cancer. I am hoping I can have my surgery next month...the sooner the better. I hope you are able to get your wls scheduled soon. I just wish that I could have had my wls surgery when I was younger and could have enjoyed a healthier life sooner. Oh well, better late than never. I will pray for your Mom and you that everything works out. Please keep me posted. Jan from TX
