Topic: RE: Ear off of Mom's dog.............
You do need to contact the humane society in your area. Some will work with such dogs to see if they can be rehabilitated and made adoptable. They are better judges of that than many people. But it does sound like the poor creature was so badly treated that currently it is not in a state to be a household pet. Even the sweetest bulldog can be very energetic and demanding of time and attention to become a good family member. Your last line bother me--why wait until the dog bites the child to act? That is seems like an extreme cost for both the child and the dog. Not all dogs are for all people, regardless of good intentions.
Best of luck,
Sally
Topic: RE: House Breaking a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
Dear Robin,
I feel for you. My sheltie, Spenser, was very stubborn about being housebroken. He didn't mess his kennel, but he'd mess on the floor. I was doing all the right things according to the books--evn bought the "pads" where he should have wanted to poop. He'd poop right next to them! It was only after I cornered him one time and gave him a swat that he stopped making messes. And I know you should not swat the dog, but I did and it worked.
As for messing in the crate, I would also consider waiting a bit longer both before taking him out after eating and letting him take longer to do his deed. It used to take Spenser quite a while to pick a spot and finish up. As a puppy he didn't seem as sure of his own needs either such as when he was really done. It would take him two or three times to get done, whereas now, one time is usually enough.
I wish you the best,
Sally
Topic: House Breaking a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
Can anyone help me housebreak my Charlie? He is 5 months old and we are crate training him. Just this morning I took him out first thing at 7, then again after he had breakfast around 8:15. Not long after we came back in he pooped and peed in his crate. Help!! I thought that in crate training they won't go where they sleep!
Any advice would be so appreciated!
Thanks,
~Robin

I am 36 yrs old, married to a wonderful man and we haved 3 great kids, Nicole is 15, Jeffrey is 7 and Lily is 2.
Give me a note back- I would love to hear from you.

Topic: Ear off of Mom's dog.............
Well, on the 10th of this month, my mom's dog got it's ear almost completely tore off by a boxer that some dropped off in the yard, she was starved a skeleton, and my daughter-in-law kinda took her in. She killed my mom's cat and 3 of the neigbors cats, and taught the other dogs to hunt in packs. Now the pitbull mix is biting at people, he bit my grandson on the ankle and my mom, too. They both had on high top shoes or there is no telling how much damage this dog would have done.
My question is, How do you tell my granddaughter that some thing needs to be done with this dog. It has tore up the neigbors dog so bad that it can't walk, now it is better but he has a limp. They say he is a sweet dog and he wouldn't hurt any person. But he is becoming more agressive, and I have a 10 year old grandson that plays out side some time, and he runs up to him. They say if he ever bites them he is gone, to be put down.
What to do? Please help................
Hugs,
Lynda
Topic: RE: Lost our beloved Golden Retriever
Thank you all for your support. We told our daughter about the loss of her dog and she is dealing with it as well as expected. On a brighter note, we have decided that once she is out of the hospital we will look for a new pet for her. Nothing brings a smile to your face faster than a puppy.
I truly appreciate all of your kind words.

Topic: RE: Help! Anyone familiar with liver disease in dogs?
A friend had a lab that had liver problems. She was treated quite successfully for a year or so with oral medication. She actually died of something else (snake bite) and was very active up to that point. I hope your dog does well.

Topic: RE: Its Time
I am so sorry for your loss. My husband and I have a 7 year old Rott and I hate to think we will probably lose him in 3 or 4 years. I'm glad you have the courage to let him go so he doesn't have to suffer.
