I believe I read somewhere that DQ soft serve has a higher sugar content than the rest...could that be it?  You could probably verify with online nutritional info at each restaurant. I'm sorry for you, that couldn't have been fun!

Like ATTY DALLAS said the quality of ice cream makes a big differance.  My uncle used to work in a Land O Lakes ice cream factory.  He said the difference between the low priced ice cream (generic/ no name/ Blue Bunny)and the high priced name brands (Land O Lakes/Schwann's/ Breyer's) is the amount of AIR put into ice cream. This gives a person a lot of gas and pressure. AIR = gas. I know Dairy Queen is not cheap, but I'd bet dollars to donuts, it has a lot of air. The other ingrediants make a differance also.  Good Luck.

Hi Julie, You poor thing, but I must thank you... I was going to go to DQ tomorrow as a little treat... THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING ME OFF!  I have suffered enough.... I hope you are feeling better and continue to do so, it's horrible to feel like that.... Hopefully you won't be going to DQ anymore! Take care, Mia

Hi Mia: Yeah, I think I'd find another treat, LOL.    Maybe go for the higher full-fat ice cream.  At the short post-op stage you are, if this can do it to me at 21 months, it'd tear your little tummy apart!

I'm on the side of the quality of ice cream.  There is one local brand here that puts me into a total tailspin.  I get stomach gurgles and a nap every time.  Any other brand is just fine for me.  I don't know what it is, but there is some kind of cryptonite ingredient in United Dairy Farmers ice cream.

Dairy queen did the same thing to my belly snd atmosphere - ugh!

However, full fat, high end ice cream does nothing to me. I like Ben & Jerry's pistachio pistachio ice cream. I stick to 1/4 c serving and I have no ill effects. But I will never do DQ again....too much pain for goodness sakes!

Ohhh and I can use 1/2 & 1/2 but not milk...same thing happens.

Hope you are feeling better...I bet you lost a pound or two.

So sorry you went through this, Julie. My husband is lactose intolerant, but can eat DQ if he takes 2 Lactaid tablets beforehand. He always goes for a plain cone, though, not a blizzard. Maybe lactaid would help you, Beano reacts with different foods and Lactaid helps digest lactose, the sugar in dairy products.

so sorry that happened to you but thanks for the warning.  That happens to me if I forget to take my lactaid pills.  I was able to eat a whole scoop of Graeter's ice cream the other day with the lactaid though, without a hitch.  It sounds like quality is an issue.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

I haven't had any ice cream since I started Flagyl, but as far as I know, the only ice cream that doesn't have an effect on me is McDonalds. I can eat a ton of that stuff and it doesn't bother me at all. DH has intestinal issues from a previous illness and it's the only ice cream he can eat, too.
