If you recall the whole post, Lori, I only ate the burrito at Chipotle that day b/c it was my first day at the new firm and we were having a free lunch that day ...   None of us had been there before and it  was a very busy assembly line day at C., b/c of the free meals (and I was late in finding the place and getting there, on top of it all) ..     It looked like burritos - on white flour tortillas - is all they served, so I got one, and they sutffed it with cheap rice before I could even say "WHOAH" ..   I sat there and picked at it and did manage to avoid eating most of the tortilla, although that didn't leave much after trying to also avoid all the rice inside it ..  My lunchmates even asked if there was something "wrong" with it, from my reluctant eating ..  If I ever go back to Chipotle again, this time I know what to expect and order to avoid "problems" ...

By way of example, what do you typically eat at home?    Maybe some ideas here will give me some alternatives ..  I got burnt out on Pure Protein bars and beef sticks after the first two years ..

Boy wouldn't it be nice to know that 30 min after eating I could go and be done

I go in the morning and evening, get gas if I eat any bread
products - white, wheat or rye. (Oh my lucky family)
Even breading on fried chicken - so I make sure if I am going to have these products I eat them later in the day after 2 pm so that I am home 3 - 4 hours later as that is when the gas can happen (I do use gas X strips and sometimes they work sometimes they don't)

OP Paul,   f  I were you I would be careful as you seem to have already upset your co-workers - make it a late lunch and enjoy  chicken is a great protein. Oh by the way Popeyes also uses the same trans fat as all the other places , it is just their spices that help the taste

Well dang, that burst my bubble about Popeye's, Mom .       (I wonder if Church's is any different?)

Everybody's going "healthy" now that I've had my surgery!    ugh ..

Well, another source of great fried chicken are those packages they sell ane keep hot  in the deli section of Kroger's ... Pretty cheap @ $5 too ..   Only problem is they go fast, and then leave behind the BBQ and "lime" varieties of fried chicken, which I don't care for and/or definitely cause me "issues" ..

I think you're right though, about just avoiding anything while I'm there (and I guess be careful what I eat for b/f) ..   or else I'll be working nights for a long time ..

Paul-

Lori said it, as have several others here, and I'm not even three months out yet, but listen, it's not the flavoring  * IT'S THE BREADING*!!!

Fried chicken is battered or dredged in white flour!   WHITE FLOUR WILL GIVE YOU GAS!  (actually, it gives me worse!  Only took once for that!)

Same thing with sugar and sugar alcohols.  For me, I have the added misfortune of being super lactose intolerant, which I would go so far as to call a milk allergy at this stage of the game.  I can eat cheese (as opposed to cutting it), but that's all in terms of dairy!

I don't know one DSer who doesn't have problems with simple carbs!  If you must have chicken for lunch, get the KFC Grilled chicken, with green beans and cole slaw as sides.  It is delicious, it's good protein, and DON'T GET BREAD to go with it!

-edit-

Actually, you might want to forego the cole slaw, too.  The dressing has sugar in it!

You're warned away from simple carbs and white flour for a reason post-op, and it's not just to accelerate your weight loss!

Thanks, Jazz ..  but I have to admit (thankfully) that fried chicken is one thing that does NOT give me issues for some reason, despite the breading ..   That's good, b/c there is no way I can eat grilled chicken ..  Since my surgery, it tastes horrible .        I think Scottie has posted that he is the same way, as far as going for the fried chicken and skipping the grilled stuff ..

(btw, where IS Cookieman???  .       I've SO wanted to finally meet up with him now that he's in N. Texas, but they've been so "elusive" since their move here  ..     )

As to the post-op lactose intolerance thing, I developed that too, as far as drinking milk and ice cream go (but thankfully NOT cheese or butter products).  I'm getting so burnt out on soy milk and would like to drink some of the real stuff once again, esp. since my calcium PTH levels are through the roof (e.g. 250s) ..   Do those products like "Lactaid" work on us O.K., or are they of no help?

The sugar alcohols do cause me some stool issues if I get too much ..  My Pure Protein bars that I used to eat for lunch contain a few, but not enough to cause problems.   Oddly enough, though, for some reason the ones in the chewable form of Devrom did cause me problems ..           Thankfully they also make them in the capsule form w/o the sugar alcohols ..

Paul-

Lucky for you!

Perhaps when my gut calms down a bit more, I can revisit fried chicken. As for Lactaid, my doc says it won't even work for me now (and I've tried it - it doesn't).  It may work for you, but for me, my heritage has a lot to do with it.

Lactose intolerance is very prevalent among African-Americans, and Dr. Inman says I don't even have enough of my own enzymes now for Lactaid to help.  She says African-Americans begin to lose the lactose digeting enzymes as early as 7 years old!  I know I've been lactose intolerant since my mid-twenties!  Put a super on the front of that, and no milk products for me!  I can't even use whey based protein!  All soy, all the time, or egg white, which I've yet to try.

I really don't mind the taste of soy mlk.  It's very hard for me to tell the difference now.

Pray tell, where did you find Devrom in capsule form?  It seems capsules work better for me.  most tablets I have to cut to expose the inside (even non-enteric coated!) to get an optimum dissolve.

 Hi again, Jazz ...

I used to get the chewable Devroms, and now the capsules, from Amazon.com, I think ..   Or possibly Allegro Medical ..    Let me check my links and see which it is, and I'll come back and post a link here ..

I'll beg to differ with you Jazz - a biscuit, a handful of crackers, some pasta will make me a virtual wind factory, but fried chicken (and fish for that matter) rarely ever affects me in the gas production department.  It must be the combination of fat/protein, etc.   Also, most fried chicken is relatively low in carb.     Fast food chicken patties and fish WILL give me gas, but I can eat KFC till the cows come home.
