How much Ibprofen can we take safely?

I know some have had issues from over use, and I know we can take it but is there is "safe" amount?  I'm sick and have a killer sore throat.  I use to pop 600-800mg before surgery but not sure if that is still ok.  I went ahead and took 400mg but it hasn't touched the pain. Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

So you're more than a couple of months out from your surgery.    You don't want to routinely take large amounts of ibuprofen for a lot of different reasons.   But in a case like this, you probably could take that much.   Especially after a full meal, not a cracker and a glass of something to drink.  I'd check with your doctor, if I were you.

I'm just wondering about your sore throat.   Do you have a fever?   Do you feel horrible all over?  Does it hurt so much to swallow that you're gritting your teeth?   That kind of throat pain sounds like strep, imho.   It might be a good idea to get that checked out, if it seems like that might be the problem.

Yep, I ache all over and am running a 102 fever.  Unfortunatlly my daughter had H1N1 last week so I'm concerenc about that too since this is how hers started.  I plan on going to the emergent care in the morning if I'm not feeling 10 times better. I've had strep many times before and it doesn't feel quite that bad, however who knows.  Right now I'm just trying to push fluids.  Thanks for your comment.

If you haven't done so yet, get yourself to the doctor ASAP!  Sounds like Strep or H1N1.  (Nurse) Lisa

I plan on going in the morning:)  Thanks for the concern.  I probably should have gone today, but I feel worse this evening then I did this morning.
