Colonoscopy and Endoscopy on Tuesday Morning... Questions
I have a question.... My husband has had 3 colonoscopies before and this is my first. My instructions say only clear liquids the day before. Does this mean 24 hours before? My appointment is at 8am and I'm wondering if I get up early can I eat a good breakfast 8am deadline. . My husband dideat a good breakfast and thought I could too. I can't call and ask as the office opens after the 8am deadline.
Believe it or not the clear liquid fast is what I dread the most. Any tips you can offer would be appreciated. I have strained campbells chicken noodle soup and made grape jello, orange jellow and have 3 boxes of popcicles. Anything I've over looked?
Thanks!

I just went through this.. hehehe.
Best tasting broth hands down-- go to a chinese resturaunt and ask for Wonton soup... without the wontons. LOL Tell them you just want the broth. It is sooo good.
Campbell's broth has the most protein at a big ole ...... 1 g per serving.
I drank all day. My list allowed hard candy.. and well if the sugar free stuff gives you the poos, all the better... I lived on it.. Lemon was my favorite. I also had Werther's for when I was really getting hungry. My list also had pops listed, but no diets.. So I threw caution to the wind and had Mountain Dew all day. Hard Candy and Mountain Dew.. i was really on a sugar high. But I am also 2 years out and one day didn't kill me.
I did not eat any foods... just to be safe. Good luck, you know I will be thinking of you.

Just did both at the same time, too! Yeah, us lucky people! I did not eat anything at all the day before (from the time I woke up until midnight, which was my cut-off time), just clear liquids. I really wouldn't eat at all that day. My appt. was not until 3 pm the next day, so I really was 36 hours without food, but they still wanted me only on clears. I remember doing the same thing before the DS, so just think of it that way.
I did swanson chicken broth about 10 times with a little extra salt and a squeeze of lemon, lime and orange jello pre-made cups, a little apple juice, hot peppermint tea with nothing added (but that's how I like it--I think honey or sweetner but no milk would be fine), diet ginger ale, and so on. By the time I was doing the prep and drinking the stuff, I didn't want anything to eat. It sucked, but I found that hot things kept me feeling more like a "real" person than the cold, sweet stuff. Go figure.
Good luck!
PS If you mix your prep with a flavor packet, I got a tip from the nurse to use a packet of pink lemonade crystal lite instead of the provided packets of flavoring, and, honestly, it tasted pretty good. Can't remember the prep brand, but it was the one that came with the container, the mix, and flavor packets that were essentially like crystal lite (in that they had no active and critical ingredients).

It kind of depends on how fast you're clearing things. In order for me to get rid of everything, I had to be on clear liquids an extra day. But you could probably get away with some breakfast if you didn't have stuff that's hard to digest and, you know, get rid of. Have it good and early.
I can remind you, because they probably did tell you this, do not eat red popsickles or red jello or any of that stuff with that red food coloring in it.
Good luck with this - the clear liquids and prep truly are the worst parts of it.

Great question... I'll tell you in about 33 hours. lol Lot's of great advice ladies. Keep them coming. I have spent the day eating everything in the house that would tempt me. I should have a good cleaning out as the past week the diarrhea has been almost nonexistent. I've gone 6 times in 3 days. That's less than when I'm feeling my best. I'm wondering if the immodium I took for a week has calmed things down. I've been off of it since Thursday because I wanted it out of my system for the colonoscopy.
At this point I'm just ready for it to be over. I'm hoping I'll be loopy enough to not remember any of it. (Especially the Endoscopy). I'll stay up late tonight and eat breakfast by 2 am. I think that'll be safe.

Jackie, my DH is doing his colonoscopy one day before you! You lucky guys. I noticed his instructions were more liberal this time. But he was not allowed any real breakfast today, sorry. But when you think about it, if you eat BK then that's just more time you have to spend in the bathroom. It's not really worth it. He did eat the allowed stuff all day long. He seemed to especially like to get warmed up with the hot beverages. Surprises on his list this year were cranberry juice and one 8 oz plain or vanilla yogurt! Good luck. hun.
