Is being over 50, with doctor’s clearance, a high risk for complications for the DS?

The bigger issues are co-morbidity's.    Diabetes, clotting problems. heart conditions etc....  I don't believe age all by itself would make someone high risk.  Obese people are a higher risk population because of the issues that come with it.

I would assume being from NJ, your are looking at Dr. Greenbaum?  I am sure you know he has a great rep as a surgeon!

Yes, you're right, and  I am really happy to have him as my surgeon.

I was 55 at the time of my DS surgery.  Neither the surgeon nor my PCP saw my age as a problem.  The surgeon indicated age could be a factor in slightly slower loss, but it has not proven to be the case so far.  Good luck to you.

I had surgery a little over 2 years ago at age 52. Lost all my weight and then some and am doing great! Age does not matter-you just need to take care of yourself well after surgery, and that goes for everybody.
