I'm going to visit with a DS surgeon on Wednesday. I have been reading about different types of DS surgeries.

What types are there??
What are the differences??
Should I ask my surgeon what type he does and have him draw it out?

Are you talking about the size of the sleeve & the length of the common channel?

Try this link, and read that page, and then the 3 boxes (history, procedure, benefits) that clicks you into other, more detailed pages.

Those are just two different names for the same operation. There are variations by surgeon on how they determine various things like common channel length and sleeve size, but it's all the same surgery.

BPD/DS stands for Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch
GR/DS stands for Gastric Reduction with Duodenal Switch

I think GR/DS is better and more descriptive of the procedure, and doesn't confuse doctors who try to equate DS with the old BPD surgery when that first name is used.

I would post a thread to Buchwald patients asking whatever specific questions you have about Buchwald.  You can just hit edit and change the title of this thread and then post in the first post that you are looking for info about how he does his DS.  This might get you the answers you seek.  With the current title you may not get Buchwald patients to look at your post.

Hope this helps.
