high protein + low carb = constipation???? this true for anyone else?

Abso-freaking-lutely!  I have tended toward constipation since my DS anyway - but I too am being diligent in my low carbing these past few weeks.  I still haven't found quite the right cure for me - but this is what I normally do:

Mirlax - 2 times daily in my protein shake (made with coffee, ice, and heavy cream)
4 tsp of benefiber in each protein shake
Lots of fat - I supposed I need to work harder to get this number up...
Mag ox with my calcium - thinking of upping this some...
4 stool softeners at night.

I can only speak for me,  but I had problems as well and have found that if I eat 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds a day I have not had any more problems with constipation.  The added plus to this is that it also gives you 9 grams of protein.  Hope it helps.

Remedies for blocked bowels include:

  1. Pistachios
  2. Water & Fiber
  3. Rhubarb
  4. Exercise
  5. Magnesium and calcium. This can be taken in pill form or powdered form mixed with orange juice.
