Heartburn after DS?

Oy! I guess the answer is that it depends on the person. To be honest, I have no comorbidities and my BMI is 46, so we agreed initially that RNY would be my best fit. Now, all of a sudden, I am having my doubts where I haven't for months. I wrote to my doctor to see if is possible for me to get the DS here. (In Sweden) If he says it is possible, I am sure I will be back with 1000 questions.

There is a DS surgeon in Sweden named Dr Olbers I think.  But be advised that he and his staff know next to nothing about post-DS nutrition and follow-up.

You don't get to choose your surgeon here. The coordinating doctor talks to you about your procedure and then you meet your surgeon after you've been scheduled. I think the information on the DS has changed here in recent years. I suppose we'll see.

Olbers is at the hospital that I have been seen at. I am really hoping they will approve it. My wife is a nurse, so we'll both read everything we can get our hands on about it and I will just lean on folks that have been through it as much as I can.

Post DS nutrition lack of information can be worked around. My surgeon (in Kuwait) had no nutrition after care other than "You've researched the eating program on the internet right?" I did my own research and I relied heavily on the people here. My labs are good (except for a slight D deficiency that is much better than it was)

Do you have Insurance OR are you paying Out Of Pocket?  The reason I ask is that Dr. Marchesini in Brazil is a VETTED, renowned DS surgeon and is a REMARKABLE PERSON as well as a PHENOMENAL SURGEON.  The cost for EVERYTHING (from tests to travel, hotel, hospital, surgery, anesthesiologist....EVERYTHING mostly) was about $12,000 five years ago and is around $14,000 to $15,000 now.  Choosing the DS was the BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE FOR ME and MY HEALTH.  Good luck in making yours.

I am covered by the national healthcare system here, so all post-op visits, labs and vitamins* will also be covered. As of now, we're a single income family in the land of 25%+ tax, so self-pay isn't an option. I wi**** was. We can easily afford any supplements and proteins I might need post-op, but $15k is a little out of our range when we're planning for a second car and babies. lol I am still just waiting to hear something.

*they seem pretty great about listening to me when I have disagreed with them so far, so here's hoping the vitamin thing will go as smoothly

i thought the gerd would disappear also but i found that 3-4 weeks after my surgery it was still there! i just have to take less of it and i can go longer without it, i just take it once every day and i use nexium. everyone seems to be different..

I used to get it occasionally preop.  Haven't had it once since surgery.  And that was a long time ago....  YMMV.

I had frequent heartburn and gerd pre-op, but haven't had a single instance of it post-op. I don't know if it's from the different stomach, or just weight loss, since I wasn't expecting it as an extra bonus.
