Fresh butter, on the countertop, always soft and fresh for up to a month. . .  Sounds great!  There's more information and a video included in the link below.  I'd love to hear from anybody that owns one -- do you love it?

It's also known as a "butter bell". Most kitchen stores sell them. I don't own one but friends do and they like theirs.

I simply don't keep butter in the fridge.  I keep it out in a glass-covered dish,  just what I"m going to use over the course of a few days.

I have something similar to this:

Americans over-refrigerate everything.  I don't keep cheese in the fridge either - I mean I leave out what is going to be consumed within a few days.

Cheese and butter are never meant to be eaten or served refrigerator temperature.

Ha! I remember how Americans (servicemembers mostly) would totally flip out the first time they went to a German grocer and saw that the eggs weren't refrigerated.

I wanted so much to love mine but I rarely use it anymore.  I found that the butter softened so much that it fell into the water and then it would turn rancid.  I have an Emile Henry butter bell so I am not sure if it is the particular shape of the bell that is the problem.

Now I just tend to put my butter in a ramekin and leave it out on the counter covered with plastic wrap.

I don't keep butter in the fridge either.  I have a pottery type butter dish that I keep it in, I just make sure that in the summer, I only keep out what I will use within a few days.

Some cheeses I refrigerate and take out a while before using.

I had one, and it broke, and I did not replace it.    Like NYB, however, I don't keep butter in the fridge.  I keep it covered in a glass dish on the counter.    My two older kids were exchange students in Germany, and when I went to visit them, I noticed that butter and cheese were kept out of the fridge.  Since everybody there looked to be very much alive and thriving, I've kept my butter out ever since.    If I'm going away for a few days or if the weather gets really warm in the summer, I refrigerate it.

Steve I have one that I have never used. If I can find it, I will be more than happy to mail it to you. I just a glass butter dish because I always have. Someone gave this to me as a gift, took it out of the box, but never used it.
