What in the HELL did I do to myself?! (Don't eat the tortillas!)
Holy crap I just had the few hours from HELL! Get your sticks out - I truly deserve a beating for this one. I'm gonna share with you though to see if anyone has had a similar experience.
Ok so I keep fresh-made flour tortillas at home (mistake #1!) because my kiddo likes to warm them up and eat them for a snack. I haven't really wanted any until today so I warmed up one and snacked on it. Knowing my bod and how its been working, I knew I'd get some gas but figured it was worth it (mistake #2!).
Immediately after eating the last of it, and I did take my sweet time, I got that knot feeling in my stomach. Even though I ate it slowly, it felt as if I swallowed the damn thing whole! I had to unbutton my pants, lay down and try to sit still and was VERY uncomfortable. About an hour later I was getting the slimeys, spitting into the toilet and in serious pain but could NOT throw up. Granted I hate throwing up but if there was ever a time to want it, this was it!
I think I was in the bathoom about 3 times before it calmed down but it calmed down enough that i tried sipping some cold tea. It stayed down just fine. Then I ate some mashed potatoes with cheese thinking that would help - it had been about 2 hours by then. About 20 minutes after eating and drinking I got that feeling in my stomach again and almost had to pull over about 5 times (I was driving) thinking I might throw up. I am talking hot, sweaty, excruciating pain! I thought I damaged my innerds and almost put in a call to Dr. Stewart.
I am fine now but to hell with food for a while! I got down a few forks full of mashed potatoes and a few swigs of iced tea but I think I'll let things work their way through before trying anything else. Has anyone else had this happen? I have had bread every now and then, mainly gluten-free but, you know, the pasty-type stuff that may as well be wet down and made into glue. Holy crap I was scared! Once i got home I took a big ole poo and felt a tad bit better but the stomach pain was out of this world. No - it was definitely not gas.
Yes, I know I deserve a good beating for even having anything with white flour in it but I'm sure we've all experimented some with different results. That's a first and last for me!!! Thanks for sharing if you have had something similar happen!!

Oh Hon!! I'm so sorry you had so much pain!!
Ya know - if you'd wrapped that tortilla around a big hunk of cheese, this might have been different. If I have high fat with white flour, it's not so bad - although I generally avoid white flour products.
Gotta ask..... Why did you add insult to injury by eating mashed potatoes?? A chunk of cheese or meat would have been a better choice. (((hug)))
Hind sight is a beautiful thing, huh??
Hope you don't have any more issues because of the evil tortilla!
Get some sleep....and you'll feel much better by morning.

XOXO!!!

Yep, had the same experience with a restaurant Totilla (by itself). I do eat the Mission: Carb Smart ones but like Julie said, it is always with Cheese or meat now and it seems to go fine. I am not sure why a lovely "FRESH" tortilla would be SO much different than a processed one but there you go...
Good luck and feel better soon!

SInce surgery, I have started making my own fresh corn tortillas on an iron skillet at home. I had never liked the ones in the store, but homemade ones are divine and they are easy on my tummy. (YMMV) but I have never had a problem with them.
There are lots of great youtube vids on how to make them. :)

Gurl, I've been there. Flour tortillas were my kryptonyte for the first year after surgery. They rendered me weak and helpless. Now, almost 5 years out I eat them no problem but that is after many bad experiences, wondering if I could tolerate them.

I have always felt fine after eating any kind of breads, and even flour tortillas. However, I ate 1 whole wheat tortilla last week and thought I would literally die from the pain. I had the most horrendous gas for hours. I popped about 4 gas-x chewables before it even started to calm down just a little bit. I will never ever eat a whole wheate tortilla again. Sticking to the flour ones!! Sorry you were in so much pain too!
