Pork rinds....
VERY HIGH in fat...deep fried.
Which is something my doctor does not want me eating post-op.
Also a high cholesterol food. Pork skin fried in lard. Yuck.
They gained popularity during the height of the Atkins craze, a diet which didn't count fat or "bad fats". Controversial to say the least.
No sugar, no carbs...just lots of disgusting, gross saturated fat. High calories too.

can you tell how I feel?

Amy,
I am still pre-op, but I know a lot of people that do low-carb and have pork skins when they are craving crunchy stuff and they don't want to eat reg chips. Porkskins have a good bit of protein, no sugar, no carbs. Everyone else is correct in what they said, but i know what it is like to want that crunch. I don't imagine that it is something you would eat constantly anyway, and as mentioned, the fat shouldn't hurt you. It might cause temporary water retention due to high sodium. A one oz. bag of porkskins has 16 g of protein.
I wouldn't replace too many meals with them either, but as a crunchy snac****asionally, i could think of a lot worse things i could choose.

They are the only crunchy, salty low-carb snack around and I eat a large serving once or twice a week for my evening snack. NO CARBS, we don't absorb the fat well (7 grams per serving) and, get this--the brand I eat has 6 grams of protein per serving. That would be Mac's Chicharrones, which are frequently but not always available at Wall-Mart.

You go girl.
Pork Rinds are high on my list of crunchies.
They are great and a really good source of protein.
I buy mine at Von's but the one's at WalMart are good too.
And now they are spicy. If you like that sort of thing. And a PS about the Lard,no one uses Lard anymore.Pork Rinds are deep fried in vegatable oil or canola.
At least the ones I eat are.
And by the way, another great source of protein that's really easy to digest is boiled peanuts. These things are ausom.
Wishing you the very best on your journey

I like pork rinds. I didn't like them pre-surgery, but now I crave them. One serving has 80 calories, with 45 from fat. So I figure with the malabsorption, that's less than 60 calories--comparable to a banana but with 8 g of protein. I eat them 1-2 times a week and I can't tell that eating them is slowing down my weight loss.
