Dear Red, I had a two part DS done vertical gastrectomy in 2/2004 and the rest of the switch in March 2005. Tricare Prime paid for both. They denied me the first time because they were missing paperwork. Once we got that straightened out it was smooth sailing. Part two I was approved in less than a week. Talk directly to Tricare before you freak yourself out. The message boards are not always up tp date or totally correct. Good Luck L. P.S. Always get the name of who you're talking to, In case you need to reference the conversation down the road, it helps!

Thanks for the information. I am feeling much better now. I am still concerned. But-- feeling better. Normally I do not get all weird over what I read on message boards -- unless I "know" the person who posted the message. But this message just really hit me hard. It was dated April 21-05 so it was a recent message and I guess I have been afraid all along that I could not have been so lucky as to have one of the "good" insurances. I have decided to simply ignore what I have read and continue moving on toward getting the documentation needed for approval and getting it submitted. Then we will see what happens. If it is denied I will appeal. If you don't mind my asking what paperwork was missing when you were denied? According to my surgeon's office all they need to submit to Tricare is the letter from the PCP, psych eval, and surgeon recommendation. Is there something else? I have Tricare standard.

TRICARE RUMOR NOT SUBSTANTIATED BY 1-877 TRICARE(874-2273) Original Post by Walter Albert at 1:08 PM PST on 05/06/2005 Lafayette, NJ I called tricare benefit / authorization line for the northeast and specifically requested they verify they were reviewing the most updated cpb, and the ds is still covered and there is not change indicated to be implemented or being considered. I had a new representive and a trainer /supervisor on line to confirm the benefit level. All should call and confirm themselves. As they do take the ss# of the caller so i cannot politely call again as to challange a differ representative.
