Ok so I try really, really, really hard to not comment about the RNYers and dumping. I really do. I read about it, thank my lucky stars I was smart enough to go the DS route, and move on.
I also post on the PA board, although not as much as here. There is a post from an RNYer who is so grateful she dumped and how this "tool" works so well for her (yikes). I didn't respond 'cause she's really quite happy about it...who am I to rain on her parade.
But - it just made me sad. I'm so grateful I don't have to spend my life that way.
(I will admit to posting a question to that board about whether or not they knew about the DS and if they chose their RNY with knowledge of other options....most of them are Barix patients and got one story alone, although it was pointed out to me they are now doing banding too...One person stated they chose their surgery knowing full well about the DS....just blows my mind how you come to that decision after knowing about the DS - but then again, they could have heard the constant pooping and smell story too)
Just my "I love my DS" story of the day.

I'm totally with you on that. Their argument is always that, "I'm glad you got the best surgery for YOU, but the RNY is best for me." I take issue with that, (because I'm a biased extremist
), but I think the DS is the best surgery for EVERYONE! WHEN is the RNY the best surgery for anyone?! Can someone explain this?! I can understand when someone is extremely ill and waiting and fighting for insurance approval for the DS isn't feasible. I can totally understand that. Or maybe if someone thinks they are such a carb-addict that they won't be able to limit sugar without the dumping to keep them straight. I dunno...I guess....
....
At any rate, Sharon, I
your DS, too! And I can't wait to
mine!

You are so close my friend and I can't wait for you!!!!!
I think the carb-addict/sugar addict thing may be true. I certainly was one myself. However, by following the protein first rule, there isn't that much room left for carbs. I'll be the first one to admit I have carbs. Not a lot, but I NEED them (LOL). Ok so I didn't NEED the Krispy Kreme donut I had the other day but damn it was good.
I actually thought as I was eating it how lucky I am to have had the DS instead.

Well, too, you hear people time and time again after having the DS say they can HAVE a donut, or a piece of chocolate, or a scoop of icecream, but that a reasonable, moderate amount is all they NEED to satisfy them. You had a donut--if it were ME, I'd have had *3*! And I'm talking the FROSTED, CREAM-FILLED kind! (Where's the icon for *drool*drool*?!)
Seems after the DS you can enjoy sweets like a NORMAL person would without overdoing it and still maintain a healthy weight! GO FIGURE! We don't want to feel FORSHAMED for our GLUTTONY and physically punished for having an occassional treat! Works for me!
This is NOT helping me find the answer to the question for WHOM is the RNY the best surgery? Maybe I should ask this question on the main board?--NOT! I'll leave that to someone with some bullocks--like Nurse Jeanie or Ms. Batt.

I posted once my true feeling that the "rny should be banned", and the ds made the surgery of choice, I feel that to make people into virtual diabetics is ethically wrong, when there is the option of doing it right with a ds. the rny should go the way of lobodomies and electro shock therapy, both were well intented. stopped the symptoms of mental illness but at what cost.
I sometimes post on my state board, but I am evidently the only DS patient there. They treat me like the village pariah, LOL. No one ever responds to my posts or even acknowledges that I am there. Oh well.
From what I have heard and seen (I had a close friend who had a RNY years back), dumping is horrific. I am SO grateful not to have to go through that **shudder**.
