Gasoline Alternatives?
Oooooo can I come live with you? LOL!!
I was absolutely BORN horse-crazy, and I've never understood why. I have a younger brother who is terrified of horses (and he's a big macho-type huntin' and fishin' guy, hehe).
Good luck with your 2nd horse
Hard to believe a mere hundred years or so ago horseback or buggy was the main mode of transportation for just about everybody!!

With suburban sprawl, it's not like folks can walk to get whatever they need. I'm trying to line up all my errands at a time, so far with limited success. Son has youth group at church on Friday night, so I run to the grocery store while he's there and then go back to get him afterward. Last night I had to do the "let's go" dance because I had frozen stuff...it may take some fine tuning. Also, where we live you have to drive to get to public transportation anyway (yeah, I'm in the boondocks). My hubby is seriously thinking about trading in our 20mpg cars for hybrids...if we hadn't used all our savings paying for surgery it may be an option!
I've been driving hybrids since 2000, when I got my first Prius and I have to say my original motivation for buying them was environmental but lately I am really enjoying the gas savings too.
My only issue with the newer Prius design is that the visibility is really bad. It has some huge blind spots that can make pedestrians invisible until they are right in front of you. I would recommend finding 2001-2003 if you are thinking Prius.
There are a lot of new hybrid options out there now though and there are more all of the time. I was told recently that Toyota plans to have all of their cars available as hybrid's in the next few years.

got a diesel 2k vw bug, and yes it will run on vegetable oil, needs to be well filtered, My wrench is a 35year factory vw mechanic for a dealer, talked about it today, he recommends a duel tank system, needs diesel to start, and you need to run diesel through before shutting down. he also cautioned that a ho****er exchange should be in the tank to preheat it, and that it gels considerably,.
I have read on my other favorite forum on boats about corn oil for diesel and it is much more favorable, ill visit that site and report more later.
