Thank u very much for ur replies and ur support. I will try to focus more on the positive side of the surgery than the negative one hopefully i'll feel better and stronger.

Today i received a call from the hospital, my DS surgery is scheduled for the 21 of April. I'm not excited anymore, i am very very scared instead. Any advises?

yea it is very good.. this is what i m doing also.. but i heard that giving a big shock to the body could have a great result on the wight lost result
Good luck

i strongly agree with u.. DS seems to be the best surgery to lose weight n not to regain it back..
Malnutrition and malasbsorption can happen in both bp and ds surgeries .. the most important is to pass the labs in time and take ur vitamins and minerals.. i know that it is more intense with DS but who takes 6 pills per day after bp, he / she can take 11 pills after ds

what is ur current weight? how much weight did u gain back in the last year?

ty for sharing ur story.. i chose the DS surgery because my bmi is 56 and i need to lose abt 200 lbs.. i heard only DS seems to help people to lose that much weight n keep it off for long time.
I spoke lately with the doc he told me the 3 surgeries are good for me n can be effective but DS is for better result. he told me that malabsorption happens in both DS and bypass and it is all abt taking the right vitamins and minerals..
i dont know i am still very confused

yea it is DS, it is written on my papers, Not SADI
Shorter is better? i was thinking to tell him to make it a little bit longer to absorb some vitamins and minerals LOL.. Good question, i will ask him.
Ty

My surgery hasn't scheduled yet. The procedure may take up to 6 months to fix a date. I tried different kind of meal replacement drinks to see what's better to use in my 3 weeks liquid diet before surgery but it seems like i am lactose intolerant because i had a cruel abdominal pain every time i drank these shakes. Today i went to the nutritionist, she replaced the liquid diet with a regular low calories fat free food plan. I thought i wld die of happiness when she showed me the menu plan, i can have eggs and bread for my breakfast, chicken with baked potatoes for my lunch and veal steak with vegetables for my dinner. although I should consume food in small quantities but it is still food not just drinks. I got some relief because i was very worried not to follow my liquid diet for three weeks. I was very discouraged because I heard a lot of bad and sad stories abt this pre-op liquid diet.
In my first topic i mentioned that i didnt have the chance to meet the main doctor who will do the surgery for me, instead i met a doctor in training so i wasnt very confident abt my decision to do the DS surgery, today i spoke to the nurse n asked her whether it's possible to give me an appointment with the main doc not the one in training to speak with him abt my all concerns n doubts, she was very helpful n gave me an appointment for the next week.
This time i will go to the doc with a long list of questions hopefully i will be more confident n relaxed with my decision. I wld really appreciate every question u may add it here so i can include it in my list.
Thanks for all of u
Adam

Does ur health insurance pay for the surgery out of the state? if yes why not to check another doc in another state to do DS?

Very sad n very frustrating to get back to the same point from where to start.. this is what bothers me the most..
Dont give up n do the DS surgery.. Good luck

ty Janet for the explanation.. it seems like protein is the key of weight loss even without surgery, 2 years before i lost abt 80lbs just by following protein diet with a bit of exercises 3 times per week but then i regained back all the 80lbs i lost n put on 60lbs extra.. very disappointing!!
I heard that too much protein is not good for the liver? and it's recommended to consume 120 g of protein daily after DS.. is that OK?

I still dont have a date for my surgery but i know that they shld inform me way ahead to sit on a liquid diet 3 weeks before the surgery.. during these weeks i can drink only BOOST shake 5 bottles per day. it's gonna be so tough.. 3 weeks not to eat something but only to drink.. n nothing to control the appetite, it's kinda of very very tough i guess..
i called the home care support office to see how it works, they told me that only my doc can evaluate my situation so if he decides that i need this service, he should write them a letter so a nurse will come over 3 days only, if i need extra days so i have to pay for it.

i was reading ur message, i felt for a second that u were talking abt me.. i am exactly the same who u were before.. i eat a lot of pastas breads pastries and all kind of carbs.. i can eat the entire orio box or an entire pint of ice cream in one shot n not smacking my eyes.
My question here, if u did RYN, would u have eaten more? if yes, why?
if ur friend did DS, would she has eaten less n be capable to stick to a diet plan? if yes, why?
what helped u to eat less n stick to a diet even though her stomach is much smaller than urs, she has only a very small pouch instead, she is supposed theoretically to eat less not more? do u think is it because of the DS surgery or the person herself / himself?
i am asking these questions because success stories can be noticed n seen in both surgeries? what makes DS surgery better then? the percentage of success stories in DS is higher? or the lost of the excess weight is higher in DS then RYN? or improvement in health condition in DS is better?
to be more precised:
1- if we take 2 person, one with DS n the other with RYN surgery, they both r gonna eat the same, exercising 3 times per week, will they get the same result? if no, why?
2- after 2 years, the same 2 person continue to eat and exercise exactly the same, will they have the same result? if no, why?
3- after 5 years, the same 2 person continue to eat and exercise exactly the same, will they have the same result? if no, why?
NB: result can be measured in weight, health condition, style of life and others
if u answer no on the last three question, there is no doubts that DS is better
but if u answer yes on one of the 3 last questions so tell me plz why DS is better if the same result can be reached by following the two surgeries but with different risks and complications rate.
I would really appreciate too much ur reply because these questions r always on my head n no one till now gave me straight forward answers ..
ty very much
Adam

I am very glad that u feel good, happy n confident no matter what.. i am still very confused here..
Today i went to one of a barbaric support group to meet people n ask them abt their experience.. everyone told me abt his/her surgery n how happy he is.. i saw good results in all categories.. i met someone who lost 230lbs on gastric sleeve n other lost only 30lbs on RYN.. results r very variant.. it depends on many factors other than just surgery type i guess. My visit made me more distracted n confused btw surgeries..
I really appreciate every advice and every message here.. it's very important for me, it may change my life.

ty very much for sharing with us these successful stories, it's very inspiring to hear abt it. I also feel sorry for Yvonne, it's very bad not to have a good result after all what she did. First i was recommended to do a gastric sleeve, but i refused, it is not as effective as DS n RYN. To be honest i always wanted to do the Gastric bypass surgery, never even thought abt DS because of the higher risks n complications related to this type of surgery.. but my bmi is pretty high 56.5 n i should lose around 210lbs to reach my ideal weight, only DS can offer such a big lose of weight and the risk to regain back the weight is much smaller than any other type of surgery.
ty for ur advice, yea i will keep researching till i feel 100% comfortable, i like too much the idea to go to the support group meetings and meet people there n get to know their experience, it can be very helpful n it may change everything

I am really sorry to hear that.. it is a big frustration to gain the weight back after all this long journey..
but u can still revise from RNY to DS i guess..
why didint they offer u the DS from the beginning? was ur bmi too much high to do the DS in one shot or what?

ty very very much .. i ve never known abt these services before.. i checked it online.. they r both available in my city.. glad to know abt it

U r right 100%.. i understand now better how they work.. but i heard that the calories absorption becomes 100% after 18 months in bypass surgeries n some drs assure that all the calories r absorbed by the body from the early beginning after surgery but the reason behind bypassing is to connect the pouch to the intestine
I am wondering abt DS surgery? the calories absorption last for life or there is some changes?

i talked to the nurse abt it but then i changed the topic and asked her another question.. i was afraid to postpone the surgery date till i could find someone.. this is exactly what happened when they canceled my appointment for a telescopic test because there was no one to go with me to the lab... i waited for this test 1 n half year n then it was cancelled for this reason..

Ty very much for ur answer.. glad to hear that i will be able to take care of myself.
what if i dont have this real person to present to take me home? will they keep me in the hospital or what?

Ty patty for ur reply, i read a lot abt regain with RNY and many of them change it to DS surgery.
Not very easy to run to another surgeon, the waiting time is too long.. unfortunately the estimated waiting time to meet a barbaric surgeon is too long, otherwise i should go to a private clinic but it's out of my budget.
""No way would I EVER just let a surgeon decide what op to do after he opened me up. NEVER< EVER> EVER! Think twice, cut once!"" ---> I agree 100%, it sounded too weird for me when he told me that.
