The more you lay around the weaker you'll get. Set small goals for yourself every day and get up and move!

Topic: RE: Costs for self payers.
I had my surgery (virgin DS--lap) in Brazil with Dr. Marchesini four weeks ago and total cost for everything for 2 of us for 19 days was $19,000 (US).

Topic: RE: Anyone Know Anyone who has had the DS Reversed?
I know someone who had the intestinal portion of her DS reversed despite the fact her eating habits clearly showed her "bowel issues" were a direct result of her crappy diet. The doc tried to talk her out of it and suggested lenghting her CC instead, fearing she'll regain her weight. She wanted it her way. It's been recent so the jury's still out. I know I wouldn't do it!

Diana--
Congratulations on a successful seven years!
I want to thank you for continuing to pay it forward. You were responsible, in part, for my decision to look into, and ultimately get, the DS. You responded to a post on the Main Board early into my WLS information gathering period. Your response peaked my curiosity and I've never looked back! Thank you for your part in my journey. I am eternally grateful!

Topic: RE: Help! My hair is falling out!!
Some people have good results with Nioxin products. I've used the shampoo and conditioner and took the Biotin and Hair and Skin vits pre-DS for extreme stress-induced hair loss. It seemed to help over time. I don't know if it would have resolved to the same extent on its own. I didn't want to wait and find out in case it didn't.
BTW-I send you a PM.

Topic: RE: Shampoo Alternative?
Pre-DS when I had significant hair loss after the death of my mother I used Nioxin products which seemed to help over time. You can get it in a lot of salons and places that sell hair products. I also took Biotin and Hair and Skin vitamins long-term.
For the past two years I have been using WEN Lavender Conditioning Cleanser. It is a gentle non-sudsing cleanser and conditioner. It is wonderful and very kind to your hair and color. I have fine hair and love the feel, smell and texture of my hair when I use it. I purchase it through QVC.com.
I am now a DSer so we'll see what happens with my hair. I just know I never want to be without this hair product--using it is like enjoying a mini-spa.

Topic: RE: Nothing sounds or taste good to me any more
I'm three weeks out and nothing appeals to me either. I've read the warnings but am still disappointed that my favorite foods are tasteless (or yucky) to me now.
Fortunately for me I'm not having the nausea. I try to put a little protein in my stomach every two hours even if I don't feel hungry.
I hope the day returns for both of us when food will be pleasurable again!

Topic: RE: If you traveled for surgery 2 QUESTIONS
Shannon--I went to Brazil for my surgery so I think I can appreciate the traveling aspect of this process. A small kitchen is extremely helpful, especially a refrigerator and microwave as you will want to have small quantities of drinks and foods on hand for you and your companion. Also close proximity to a grocery store is helpful.
We do not have any DS surgeons in my state but through a stroke of luck I became involved with a DS support group an hour and a half from here several months prior to my surgery. We meet every other month. They were invaluable as I was making the decision regarding who to choose for my surgeon. I am so grateful to have found them--or perhaps they found me--through this forum.
Good luck!

Topic: RE: An Update
I read a comment recently that so many people "disappear" from the boards after surgery so I thought I'd take a couple minutes to provide a personal update.
My surgery with Dr. Marchesini was 3 1/2 weeks ago and so far the recovery has been very uneventful. He is a wonderful man and highly skilled surgeon unlike any I have ever met--and I know quite a few personally and professionally! Traveling to another country for the first time was challenging but very much worth it to have Dr. M. as my surgeon. I highly, highly recommend him without hesitation!!
My biggest challenges have been the expected ones--getting in enough protein and tolerating the massive amount of vitamins. I'm working on those issues trying to figure the best way to manage them. Every day gets better. I'm doing well with my fluids. I found out really quickly how much I can tolerate at one time in my stomach and don't push my limits. I don't want to jinx anything but I have had no vomit ting. Yea!
I'm still looking for a protein drink I love. Nothing I'm wild about yet (any suggestions?) Have been trying lots of samples--and found a few I can't stand. I'm still trying to learn the different types and how they affect my tummy--one gave me major gas and I'm not sure why. I'm used to drinking tasty milk-based protein shakes pre-DS but I'm not going there these days. I have lost over 27% of my excess weight--not too bad for a "light-weight" three week out.
Will probably go back to work a few hours a day later next week to test my stamina. Though I'd really love to stay off, I feel guilty since I feel so good--except for occasional fatigue. I have found adjusting to the demands of this reconfigured body (fluids, protein, vits) to be a full-time job and am a little concerned how work will impact this.
I still do not want to discuss my WLS with the masses and, though they know I had "abdominal surgery," they don't know the nature of the surgery. I work in a very competitive, demanding, ever-changing environment. Some day I may decide to talk about it but for now it is still very personal and I will keep it that way. I'm hoping the physical changes I experience will give me the edge I've been missing.
Many thanks to the vets who continue to share their expertise! Without your input and support this journey would be much more challenging.

You should be ok after three weeks. Can you go back half-days the first week?
