I'm going through the same struggles for the very remote possibility they will pick up a portion of the cost for the DS, which my HMO does not cover. I have to keep reminding myself if they do it will be worth it. Frankly, I'm sick of it.

Vit E can have an anticoagulant effect (blood thinner).

Topic: RE: Dr. Marchesini - Info and patient reviews?
Mdae--
I have been in contact with Dr Marchesini recently regarding the DS. He quoted me the following (the Brazilian Real is their currency):
Open DS-- R21000= $11,323
Lap DS-- R 26000= $14,020
These prices are based upon the exchange rate and are current as of this AM.
His email address is [email protected]
He has been very responsive every time I have emailed him and very forthcoming in answering all my questions. So far I have been very impressed.
Hope this is helpful. He has a very loyal following and I'm certain some of his patients will willingly share their stories. Best of luck to your sister.

I'm self-pay, too. You may also want to check out Dr. Marchesini in Brazil. If you email him he will get back to you within a day or two with answers to any of your questions.

Good for you for taking the next step to being well! You already know it won't be easy, but as with so many things breaking the inertia is the hardest part. I wish you much success!

That was one lucky deer! With so much cruelty in the world it warms my heart to see people going out of their way to help an innocent creature in trouble. Lisa

Thanks to all for your responses! I guess the bottom line is nothing is set in stone and it truly depends upon the surgeon and the condition of individual person.

I am wondering if having had the classical gallbladder removal surgery (an 8", almost-midline abdominal incision) years ago is more or less likely to require me to have an open DS vs a lap. I know it will ultimately be up to the surgeon (don't have one yet) but knowing this might help me narrow my search for a doc.

In the meantime consider applying a steristrip.

You remind me of myself. We are almost the same age and have a similar amount of weight to lose. I have never had the lap band though I toyed with the idea at one time. I understand your frustration and desire to be a normal weight. Like most people on this forum I have tried almost everything to get there. Long term success that will fit into my life style has always seemed to elude me. I have tryed and failed so many times I struggle not to just give up and stay fat, but I just don't want to spend the rest of my life like this.
I have researched every option out there until I'm blue in the face and am finally sure the DS is for me. I have not had the surgery yet but am working on it. I know having the DS requires a life-long committment to taking my vits and getting my labs done, and I am prepared to make it.
I am doing everything in my power to prepare myself for success before I get into the OR. I take vitamins everyday faithfully and have taken considerable time educating myself about the DS. From what I've read here and elsewhere much of the success hinges on mind-set. You can change your thinking about taking vitamins if you really want to. There are alarms on cell phones or alerts on your computer to help remind you if you need that.
I guess it boils down to how badly you want to lose weight and keep it off while staying healthy. For me taking vitamins everyday is a small price to pay for a better life and I am absolutely certain the DS is the way for me to get there.
I wish you much luck with whatever you decide.

Topic: RE: An Embarassing Question / RE: Women's Clothing
QVC has custom jeans available and I don't think they are overly expensive. You just send them your measurements and they make them to fit you. The nice thing is you tell them how you want the fit to be...looser in the thighs, snugger, the rise, etc. Also you never have to leave the comfort of your own home to try them on. If you don't like them, send them back. You may want to check them out on QVC.com. If you can't locate them, call customer service and they will tell you how to find them. Might be worth a try.
