eavesdropping on phone calls

This really ticks me off...the phone rings I answer it and it is my sister...I am trying to talk to her find out what she wants and I hear a click on the line and some noise. I asked my sister if it coming from her end...knowing full well it is not...so then I say hello and Granny replies. She has picked up the extension in her room...no biggy right...so I tell her I have got it and I am talking to my sister...she says okay and hangs up...I try to continue the conversation and a second later I hear the click and more noise. This time she doesn't say anything...so I mention the sound to my sister and we hear her hang up only to pick it up a few seconds later! This drives me nuts...it isn't the first time or even the second that she has done this...it's not like there is much going on for her to listen to but still it is RUDE!!! To add to my frustration I am not supposed to say anything to her about it because according to my mom...she is an old woman, she doesn't have all of her faculties about her, she doesn't mean any harm, she is just trying to be part of the house hold...blah blah blah...plus I can't complain to my mom about it because I get a lecture about how I have no compassion for her...etc... sorry I had to share with someone I am so close to just blowing my top and tell her she is being a rude old bat...thanks for listening...

it's time for you to call and get your own phone line

I actually used to have one but my dad figured out he could save a lot of money if he got rid of it. I have my cell phone but it doesn't allways work too good in the house. So my sis calls on the house line.

are you working.. in other words can you afford yourself the seperate phone line?? not that it's my business.. and not to pry if not I agree with others.. just say I'm still on the phone Granny.. did you need to call out?? and I know YOU already know all this.. and just needed to vent basically I think I would vent ALOT if I were living with family again after being on my own for awhile!

Well how old is she? Maybe she just gets a kick outta tormenting you? Ya never know know about old people. They can be onry! I know my Dad calls people several times a day and totally forgets he's doing it. Just bare in mind that someday you will be old and bored and lookin for someone to mess with too! Next time give something really juicy to think about. If your talking to your sister tell her to sound like a guy and really get things going. Or tell her you had a sonicgram and you are having triplets! I keep waiting for Deb to start messing with my Dad like that but she hasn't. I wouldn't blame her though! Just cause they're old don't make them a saint!

She is 84 and will be 85 in May...shortly before alien is born. I think she is just nosey and want to know what is going on...I only truly worry about it when I am venting to my sis about how much she is annoying me...cause I don't need Granny going to my mom pouting about how I don't like her or I am mad at her...she does enough of that already.

I like Sparky's idea....when you hear that someone joined the call....start making up a story....lol....am sure she is bored too.....and am sure that is frustrating....just continue to love her...... did she like all of our Christmas cards we sent her?

I bet it is annoying but she is old and probably trying to live through you... unfortunately. Maybe next time you hear her pick up.. Just say "Hi Grannie! How are you" Let her know you know she is on the line. At least you hear the click and you can alter your conversation as needed.
