Hello ladies - I am a 51 year old wife, mother & grandmother in Wichita Falls, TX. I am currently scheduled for surgery on 9/17 - I too started my pre-op diet yesterday - and it is NO FUN AT ALL! I'm very determined to stick to it though - I've read stories of people that have had their surgery postponed because they didn't follow the diet and their liver was too enlarged to complete the surgery.
I am motivated to be successful so I can be more healthy as well - I have a chronic respiratory condition and have been on medical leave since October 2011 - I'm ready to be healthy and rejoin my family - we/they are very active in all kinds of activities - and for now I can just listen to their stories - I want my own stories to tell! :)
Anyway, glad you ladies are looking for the same things I am.

Hey my name is Lindsey, im 22 a college student here in San Antonio, TX. i recently got my surgery on august 13th and and would like to make connections with those who have had or are about to have surgery.
About me:
I was attending UTSA, but since i was unable to decide what i wanted to major in, my mother made me go to community college to get an associates while i figure out what to do. I live with my boyfriend and we have three wonderful animals.
id prefer to have a snail mail pen pal, but email and messages are just fine too. this way i can share my journey with people who understand all the ups and downs!
ps. i promise i am not a serial killer who will google your addresses and hunt you down.

i cant understand the pre op diet totally sucking. i got RNY on august 13th and have been having a few problems figuring out how my guts work lol. my boyfriend is a type 1 diabetic, but he has seemed to lose all the weight i gained throughout our relationship. my twin sister got RNY two years ago and is now a skinny little thing, which gives me hope.
I think ill actually feel better about getting the surgery when my pants dont fit haha!
word of wise : right after surgery your back will hurt horribly! ( at least it did for me because of all the gas) what helped me was walking around a lot, and also my mother rubbing my back while a stood up. and having someone rub a rolling pin up and down my back helped a lot.
what is the exact pre op diet they put you on? i was on two protein shakes and then a small protein meal for like two weeks before my surgery.

I messaged you earlier with a bit of a "thanks for picking me for a penpal" note. It wasn't much, but I know I mentioned not spending too much time on this site, but a couple of others. I'm just not that familiar w/ it yet. I haven't spent enough time here, so I guess it's time to start. :)
I'm doing my two week pre-op diet RIGHT NOW, and I won't lie... it sucks! I will be so glad when the next 10 days go by so I can have my surgery and not have much of an appetite. Right now, it's hard, but it could be so much worse. Being a low carb/high protein eater already helps trememdously!
Hit me up, no matter when you need to chat. I am always around the computer most often during the day. I am disabled from my diabetes so I am a stay at home mom. My hubby is out of work right now, too, so it doesn't help a bunch, but at least I know he's around to help me out until i recuperate from my surgery on the 12th. You can e-mail me if you'd rather. My e-mail is [email protected] and I try to keep up with it daily, especially while I'm trying to stay occupied while on this stupid diet.

It seems we have some things in common. I am 33 y/o, have three children - 11, 8, and 4. I am not having the RNY, I am having the sleeve, my surgery date is October 2. Do you have a date yet?
My husband is pushing 400 pounds, I too am hoping that my changes will light a fire in him and help him to become healthier.

Hi Robin!
My medical weight loss requirement was to do a medically-supervised weight loss program for 6 months. I've lost some weight on it, but at the rate I'm going it will take me about 4-5 years to get to my goal weight!
Last night's appointment went okay, but I was disappointed to learn that it is a two appointment process :( I go back at the end of next week. But, when I scheduled my appointment with the surgeon, I scheduled it at the beginning of next week because I thought I would have my psych eval completed by then. I think I'm still goig to to keep the surgeon appointment though.

Hope this note finds you well :) So, you have a medical weight loss requirement?? Where are you located? Are you in the US? I hope your appointment goes well tonight. Hi Janine...here's hoping you're feeling better. I just got the date to "meet my surgeon" it isn't until November 2nd but I know its getting closer and closer and I can live knowing that!

I'm having my VSG on Sept 24th and am really excited and getting nervous. Trying not to eat everything in sight as the date grows nearer. I am dreading the pre-op but anxiously awaiting post-op and losing the weight.

I'm new to this site too. I've just finished the 6 months medical weight loss required by my insurance and have a psych eval tonight. I'm meeting with a surgeon for the first time next week.
I would love to find someone who has or is going through the same thing to share this journey with.
