Is anyone out there...?

Are there special issues related to the g/l/b/t WLS patient? For myself, I was worried that my partner would be prevented from being with me at the hospital, and also that if the worst happened she would not be allowed to participate in decisions about my care. Fortunately this didn't happen. Now I'm running into the issue that some in the lesbian community seem to feel that I have "sold out" to the traditional patriarchical ideal of women's beauty because of my RNY. They don't seem to get it that it's about how I feel and about my health...not simply about being stereotypically attractive. What are your thoughts about the special issues we face as WLS patients and post ops?

You are not selling out and don't listen to them. Did you do a health power of attny and living will with your partner before your surgery? If not, you may want to consider it next time. It's our only way of ensuring our rights in places like hospitals. You were lucky the hosiptal didn't cause any problems for you.
