I recently joined the Y in our area (Muskegon, MI). My partner and her child and I were able to join under the "family" membership rates. This is a big step forward for them. About 6 years ago I tried to do the same thing and was quickly ushered to a "special room" and was seen by a "special staff member" who quickly explained to me that "family" was not defined that way in their organization and escorted me out of the facility. Hip hip hoooorrrray to whoever changed the policy!

We had the same experience and it was wonderful. I loved being able to have "family" benefits. She is my family.
