I only eat good cards. I can not eat breads, crackers, chips ect because they get stuck so I really concentrate on my proteins!

This is the problem I've been having lately. I was told by my doc and nut not to eat carbs anymore (to limit them drastically). Ever since then, I've been craving them. And if I give in, the more I crave them. I'm hypoglycemic now and the more carbs I eat, the lower my blood sugar goes. So that's why I'm supposed to limit them. I'm trying so hard to not eat them, but some days find I can't shove enough down my throat (not literally, but feels that way).

In the beginning, I ate almost exclusively protein and then gradually worked in some veggies. Then, at about six months postop, I added a little bit of fruit and some whole grains. Now that I am close to goal, I don't worry so much about it, but I do make sure I eat my protein, at least 3 ounces at each meal, first, then veggies, then carbs if I want them. This way, my carb intake is very small.

Katy,
I've been diagnosed as hypoglycemic recently. Funny! I was diabetic preop - 14 pills and 2 shots daily for the diabetes. Now, I drop. I've been having episodes a lot lately. I find certain things make it worse...the more carbs I eat, the lower I go and the faster I drop...the warmer the weather (or higher the humidity) the faster I'll drop. My lowest was 38.
I test often now too. There are some days I can't seem to keep my BS above 50 no matter how much I eat. Other days, I'm great - absolutely NO issues.
PM me if you have time and let me know what your nut and doc have prescribed for you as far as food/drink during an episode, how to prevent, etc. I'd love to compare notes. My surgeon said I'm an anomoly, as most people become hypo at 14 months+ post op and I reached it in just 7 months, plus rarely does a "true" (his word) diabetic become a "true" hypo (again his word).

I was over the summer and I really got a lot out of it, but it's on Thursday nights and during the "school" year I volunteer at church on Thursday nights for our Alpha program. So, no I'm not going now. But I do go to coffees when I can with some of my local OH'ers.

If I go somewhere where I know I will be having carbs (like the wedding last weekend!), I try to eat extra cautious throughout the day and the following day. It's all a balance system to me. And most of the carbs I eat are healthy carbs anyway.

No, I don't. I go to school full time, and hold two part time jobs. It seems whenever there is a meeting, I have other commitments. So, OH is my support system, and I feel it does the job.

I don't generally pay much attention to carbs. I worry about my protein intake and fat intake. When I eat carbs, they are usually fruits, vegetables and whole grain choices. The only time they give me trouble is if I choose to eat a cookie or something like that. Then my sweet tooth gets turned on immediately. But I keep those episodes to a bare minimum, they are planned, and once I eat the item, I don't let myself eat anymore.
