Msnbc is having a gastric bypass show on right now 9 pm eastern time Sunday
Missed it.. did you tape it? was it worth seeing???
300,000 people die from Gastric bypass patients die per year??? Just the ones not following instructions... or NOT calling their Drs when they have issues... I think the number is high..
This surgery is dangerous dont get me wrong.. any major surgery is dangerous and when you adjust your body so drasticly you can have problems but what the heck were we doing to ourselves proir to surgery>> we were heart attacks, strokes and diabetic comas waiting to happen... I think just as many Fat people die per year they just don't report it because no one thinks we were important enough to report on Before surgery..
Linda
NO .... the die from obesity and its related diseases(hight blood pressure, heart attacks, diabetes) / complications. Not the bypass surgery. It actually stated that now with the updated surgery procedures there is only a 1% mortality rate with this surgery. Thats an awesome improvement from what it was in the '70's and early '80's.
No I didnt tape it either. Ive seen this show before but I didnt know that when I first started watching it by the shows name. It was a good show and worth watching. I think it was originally a dateline show maybe. They show it a few times a yr.
I cought the end of the show at 12:30am (my dog had to go out then) They must have replayed it. I thought they covered things pretty well as far as stating that it was just a tool and you still have to do life changes. What surprised me was that the one man they were featuring didn't get up to walk till the 3rd day? I know all programs are different and maybe it was becasue he had it done 4 years ago, but I think they should have visited more bariatric centers with current practices. Like I said, I didn't see it all. Maybe they covered more earlier in the show, I only saw the last 20 min. I hadn't seen this one before and wish I could have seen the whole thing. I watched many programs on discovery health channel before surgery which help me a lot in knowing what to expect. I think shows like that should be mandatory viewing before surgery.
I didn't get a chance to see this special. I am sorry I missed it. However, have you seen the special on TLC about the lady from Arkansas who had the surgery? It makes you so sad. It's called "______'s Journey" I believe. She gets into drugs and drinking after the new found attention from men. She did the surgery because she wanted to take care of her daughters but when they do the follow up like 3 years later her daughter is obese. Just sad...

Sam, I didnt see the one u are talking about but my mom told me about one on TLC of a....I think 900 lb man who they had to cut out of his house and they finally get him to a hospital for treatment and he died. She said it was so sad, she was
and had to end up changing the channel. That she couldn****ch any more of it. I'll keep an eye out for the one u are talking about maybe they will have it in reruns soon.
Lately Ive been watching on TLC this new show about "Honey we're killing our kids" or something like that. Its really good. Shows all the crap kids are eating and that its killing them. My favorite part is they show pics of each kid ...at what they will look like at 40 yrs old if they continue the way they are going and again a pic of them at 40 with all the healthy changes made in their lives. The two are amazing. Scarey but amazing ....
I also responded to your email...so u should have it when u get to work. I cant wait to get off and go home and
Hugs
Mariah
