Emergency Room Visit!!

For several days I have had a burning in my left ankle, and it was swelling terribly. Now, I have lived with swollen legs and ankles for years, so didnt pay a lot of attention to it, although since surgery they havent been swelling. Last night the pain was enough to make me squirm in my pew in church, and feel a bit nauseated. So, today, since hubby was on his day off, we went to the emergency room. Several friends thought it looked like a blood clot, the leg was red and hot and painful to touch. Turns out I have cellulitis! They said so many years of obesity, and my legs swelling and going down, then swelling again, has caused the tissue to break down with irreparable damage. So, now I am on a high powered antibiotic, with an appointment to see the infectious disease doctor next week. The doc said if I am not better by Monday, its hospitalization. I was relieved they didnt keep me today. So, its leg up, and relaxing for the rest of the week,,,,, I was glad to knwo it wasnt a clot, but this has bummed me out to know its ireeparable damage. I called my vein clinic too, hafta go back and let them see whats going on in side. Just wanted to vent .....it could be worse, so Ill stop whining now...... Blessings betsy

Sorry to hear of the cellulitus, it is tough! I was hospitalized for 5 days with it in August and had high doses of anti-biotics with a picc line afterwards at home for 12 days, please take care of yourself! Keep your legs up and enjoy the game sunday! Hope you are all better soon! Hugz Dawn

OMG!! I never thought of that happening!! My legs don't hurt but they do look like they are retaining alot.. I am concerned because the marks left bymy socks is alot more than usual.. TAKE CARE!! I know it can be bad. Linda

Betsy- Sorry about your legs, but thanks for the info! I have been on Lasix for so long and dealt with the leg issues that I can totally relate to ignoring the pain and look! I will pay more attention to the issues and watch for any more serious symptoms! I will pray that you heal quickly and have no spreading. That is some bad stuff!! I love the new picture! Betsy, I am praying for you- It is no fun to have cellulitis- I had it before WLS. Please do whatever the Drs. say and stay off your feet as much as possible. Keep us posted on how you are doing. ((( gentle hugs)))
