Birth Control
Yeah, for someone who supposedly couldn't have babies, I'll say surgery makes ya fertile! I got preggo at 4 months post op. Now that Gwyn is here, they are pushing the BC pretty hard. I have a script for the patch. They were going to put me on mirena, but at the appt they were going to put it in, I mentioned we want to get preggo again in about a year, and she suggested the patch instead. I filled the script but haven't started it yet. I have another appt on Monday and need to have a pregnancy test before I start it. We've only done "it" once since I had Gwyn, but TECHNICALLY I wasn't supposed to yet until this appt Monday. I jsut wanna be sure I'm not already preggo before I start the patch. Honestly, how long do they expect people to go without sex?! Two months is too long!
I just wanted to say that my sister is a midwife and has a few WLS clients and she always recommends the new IUD Marina! It works so well and has very little side effects. It can take your body a few cycles to get in sink, but it is so worth it for the cost and the ease of the whole thing. Especially if you have no problems that need to be corrected with the pills!!!
Good luck and be careful!!!!!
Blessings,
Carmen
I have been using the Mirena IUD for about 3 or 4 years. I love it and have not had any side effects. HOWEVER--since I have lost weight, my husband can feel it sometimes.
Also--this is a little gross--BUT...when we have really good *****like sex, I bleed a little. Not a lot--just a little spotting.
Don't judge me!!! ALL of you have done it before.

Good Morning Everyone!!
I want to thank all of you for your sage advice and suggestions! I know that I'm a fertile mertle I got pregers before wls at 280lbs and on the pill. That's why I'm so concerned now. I want to make sure that I have a chance to get all my weight off before I get pregers again. I'd like to have a lil thin time before i willingly start to gain! I will have lots of research to do. You ladies are wonderful!! Thank you again for all your help. It really means a lot!
HUGS!!!
Andrea
PS Lee...Thanks for the doc referal! I will try to get in over there! Hugs!!
Amanda...I will def look into the ring. It seems like a good option. I had a girlfriend that said it would come out when she was having sex. You havn't had this prob? Maybe she wasn't putting it in far enough or she having a lot of wild ***** sex too! I'll have to talk to her about it. Thank You so much!
OK, guys, I'm worried about this. I specifically asked about this issue in my pre-op class, and was told the pill was fine and I did not need to switch to anything. I really didn't want to switch, so I was relieved, but come on... I don't want to get unexpectedly pregnant either! I am getting worried now. should I ask my GYN? Call the surgeon specifically and ask her rather than whoever was teaching the pre-op class? I think I'm still technically too big for the patch (202 this morning) and I don't want an IUD ever, and I'm afraid the ring would - I don't know - fall out. I tried that period product "Instead" a while back, which is a silicone ring with silicone material attached to it... looks a little like a diaphram - and it was way too big for me and fell out all the time. I don't want to use the injections because of all the side effects I've heard about, so I don't know what to do!! I guess I could just double up with condoms. For years I just used fertility awareness (NOT RHYTHM!!) and that worked great for me, but decided a year ago to go back on the pill due to longer and more painful periods. I would almost prefer using FAM again because I KNEW when I was fertile and didn't have to guess about it all the time. But I'm a little to worried about making a mistake with my calculations or something now, and I just don't want to risk it. I'm so confused about everything right now... I wonder if I'll ever get the hang of all of this.

Kim,
I would talk to both your gyn and your surgeon. I've talked to my surgeon and she told me that I could go back on the pill but I would have to supliment with a "barrier" method as well (condoms, diaphragm, cervical cap, etc) because of the absorbtion issues. I personally don't want to have to pay for 2 types of birth control so that's why I asked here if anyone had any luck with another method. Sorry to be the fire starter but it's better than being supprised!
