Good Morning Everyone! I am 3 weeks post op and have been doing fairly good with my program up until now. I am really struggling with what to eat for breakfast. I am not a yogurt eater and can only handle eating eggs once in a while. I LOVE cheese and have tried eating that, but I can't handle eating 2 oz. at one time. Someone suggested that I try eating sausage patties and this is okay, but it's not something I want to eat all of the time. Does anyone have any suggestions for breakfast foods?

Oatmeal may work for you.

At 3 weeks I would stay away from pork products.  I am 6 months out and can eat turkey sausage.

If you went through the St. V's program you received a yellow sheet that tells you OK foods for each stage.

Please use that or if another program check with the NUT.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou has done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

My favorite breakfast was 1oz of cottage cheese and a 1oz string cheese stick. I chewed the cheese stick till it liquified in my mouth. I still do the cottage cheese for breakfast now...it ia a totally great source of low fat and high protein that makes me feel like I get my day off to a great start. Stick to the yellow sheets from St. V's and you will do great! Hugs! Marianne

My breakfasts were mostly plain Oatmeal then I added butter and milk , apple sauce(Motts no added sugar granny smith), cottage cheese(small curd), refried beans(taco bell) and cheese sticks(Sargentos colby was my fav).

I also would freeze my profect's in the freezer and lick them like a popsickle but then I surgery in July so anything cold was great when I was 350 lbs.

I would have sauage on occasions but I dont think I did that till I was about 3 months out.   Also....You can eat any food at breakfast time.  It doesnt have to be tradional breakfast foods.  Even know I push myself to get enough veggies in so I may wake up and have broccoli and cheese and some corn for my breakfast....I do this alot now.  Im not totally into tradions when it comes to food....maybe thats why I was weighting over 350 lbs 2 yrs ago

If you went thru St. V's you are not allowed eggs or meats yet.  You would have gotten a list of foods you can eat at this point post op.  Maybe you went thru another hospital and I dont know what they allow you to eat.  You probably should call your nut for ideas.  Good luck!

I eat cottage cheese for breakfast pretty often. And once you get to where you can have cereal, Special K makes a protein plus cereal with 10g protein per serving.

Thank you for all the great advice. I didn't go to St. V's, therefore I don't have the list everyone is referring to. At this stage, the only thing my Dr. will allow is........cheese, eggs, yogurt and meats. I'm, not allowed to have fruits or veggies for 6 months! When I went into all of  this I thought it would be a piece of cake because I LOVE meat and cheese............oh how wrong I was! Turns out I love it, but not enough to have it everyday.

Since you can have meats, for now, I would stick to canned meats. For breakfast, if I were you, I'd add a little bit of canned ham to some scrambled eggs for a change. Or fix some ham salad (like tuna salad). I would stay away from 'real' meat right now though and give your tummy time to heal. If you wouldn't give it to a 1 yr old, don't give it to yourself.

BTW...3 yr ago (when I had my RNY), those through St. Vincent's WERE allowed scrambled eggs but no crackers. 6 months later when I had my revision, eggs were a no-no and crackers were ok. The big reason I was told that eggs were disallowed is that they have a tendency to get hung up on the stoma. They did with me. Sherri

I would say I agree with it doesn't have to be breakfast food for breakfast, I did whatever was on my list that I could handle at that time, oatmeal, cottage cheese, co-co wheats.  I was one of those from St. V's that was allowed to have eggs (dr diaz told me to eat them) but he wanted me to eat tuna too, but pureed. I would diffently stick with the canned meet if at all possible though, the seem to really settle much better then the real thing.

Hi I'm almost 17 months out and I had a similar problem.  I ate egg salad and scrambled eggs with cheese.  And then I realized that I got real tired of eggs really quick so I started just saving little bits of the different meals we had through out the week and then would have that for lunch and that's what I still do.  So now for me it's nothing for breakfast to be chili or meatloaf because I never have what the kids are having.  I don't see why breakfast has to be breakfast I just do what sounds good and is the best choice for me.
