Frustrated!!

Just got back from Dr. Gupta's. Now, she doesn't want to do the surgery at all to close me up!! She's talking about letting it close up on it's own which will give me a football shaped scar about 4" x 10" at it's longest/widest!! And then later I 'can have Dr. Bergman remove the scar'!!! Which of course, Anthem is NOT going to consider medically neccesity so it would all be out of MY pocket! And I would have to deal with Dr. Bergman's anasthesist again...the one who busted my lip & gave me pnumonia! I tried my best to talk her into doing the surgery to close me up and the best I got from her was that she'd relly have to think about it!! I am not even suppose to go and back and see her again until Dec. 17th!! I definately do NOT want to be on this damn wound-vac for 3 more weeks!! To top things off, Dr. Brooks wants me to go to some center over the coumadin stuff since SHE can't seem to figure out how to regulate it! And of course Bill thinks I should not be upset over any of it!! So vent to him??? Nope! I could just sit down and cry! Sherri

Gosh I dont know what to say Sherri, thats just awful that she would not want to close you up. How could she be so inconsederidate (SP). after everything youve been thru to make yourself healthier and to look better she wants to leave you a big scar. Can you maybe see another surgeon? I feel so bad for you. I hope everything works out for the best for you. ((((((HUGS)))))

Sherri, I am so sorry to hear this!  You have been through SO much and this is a REAL bummer!  Husbands often do not understand these kind of things--especially if they did not have WLS--so feel free to vent here ANYTIME!  I hope you are able to find a solution to the wound that is acceptable to you and the doctor.  Did Dr. Gupta say WHY she doesn't want to close it up?

Maddie,

I think Dr. Gupta is just very afraid of what my body can and cannot handle. since they put me on coumadin, I'd have to be off of it for 5 days pre-op...and then there's the question of being on lovenox or not while I'm off of it. Then there's the surgery itself. I DO feel like I'm strong enough for it...but I'm not a surgeon and she is the one who needs the comfort level about it. And then there's the swelling itself..is it down enough or not. I hope she reconsiders...but in the meantime...grrrr.

The visiting nurse did give me a small reprieve at least. She opted to wait to replace the wound-va****il Wednesday so that the skin can heal a little bit and hopefully some of the stuff they've ordered to help the skin will have a chance to get here. I plan on going clothes shopping tomorrow for something to wear to the St. V's party & Ornament Exchange so at least I'll be able to do that without lugging that darn thing around with me.

OMG!!! I would be ticked off!!! I was talking to my friend and she thinks the same thing. I would call another doctor and see if they can fix it... I dont know if insurance will cover that but I would sure try... and another thing is finding a doctor.... I would call the doctor back and tell her you dont feel comfortable with this not be closed.. I would tell her you want the surgery done... I would call her later today once you have calmed down. So, you have to have a scar removed when they can just close it up... I would be sooooo upset... Actually I am upset for you!!! Well, I will give some good news for me... Logan got his tubes today... That was sad, but he did ok... He went in the play room when he got home to look for his sister and got mad when she wasnt there... I dont know if I have told everyone he is now walking... Well, he was all off balance before surgery(he actually fell at the hospital right before surgery and bruised his head). Now he is walking all over the house non stop... Doing good and climbing on stuff... I am so happy he has tubes... It is crazy how fast they actually start working... He is doing good now... Sorry I am happy he is better... If you need to call and vent I will listen... I have several people who just call and vent... We all know that we are not mad at the person just life so we dont get offend... Well, I will talk to you later....

Well. I know this is discouraging especially since this is the result of PS to improve how your stomach looked. However, that being said, it doesn't come as a surprise to me that they decided not to close it up. I got an infection in my incision after my first C section and that is exactly what they did with me. The same thing happened to a friend of mine. They sometimes don't like to close areas where there has been an infection (and in this case maybe it is because it is where there is probably a high risk of one b/c of the nature of stuff in the colon) because sealing up the infection can make it more difficult to deal with, harder to treat etc. I know you are discouraged but you really don't want to have anymore problems! Just focus on your health and keep your chin up!!

There's not an infection..and never has been. It is so frustrating because for the past ~2 months, I've been told repeatedly that she WOULD close it up surgically. Now all of a sudden, she's changing her tune now that the stomach swelling is getting close enough to being gone to where it could be closed up. I just want her to do what she had told me she would do all along. Now, I'm going to end up with a huge scar on my stomach that I am going to have to pay big $$ out of pocket to get removed..and here I am still paying on the $9,000 for my tummy tuck...which the biggest portion was nothing but a huge waste of $ since they had to remove the abdo part to get to the intestines.  Sherri

I firmly believe you should never be worried to get a second opinion. Any doctor worth their weight will not mind if you get a second opinion. If they do mind, I would be upset about that. That said, maybe you should think about asking someone else if they will close you up. It can't hurt to talk to another doc.

Sherri, please get a second opinion....it won't hurt at all. It will put ease to your mind, and your Dr. shouldn't mind if you do that.  It has to be very upsetting to know that all the hard work and effort you have put into making your body look the best that you can, could now be put on hold for while.  I hope that the reasons that your PS gave you are legitimate ones, and just not something to try to pacify you.  Prayers are headed your way, and so are some hugs.......but not too tight. I wouldn't want to squeeze the "dung" out of you since you finally have that kinda under control again! Love ya, LaChelle
