Pre- op tests were today, tomorrow is the NUT class.
I had my pre-op testing today and OMG if there is anything wrong with me they will surely find it! 10 tubes of blood, 2 views chest x-ray, Upper GI, pulmonary function test, EKG... GEEZ! And the barium they gave me for the Upper GI gave me the screaming poops. I had to drive 50 miles, while cramping and trying to hold myself till I could get home. (The tech told me most people either get bound up if they don't drink enough fluids after the test, or lots of others have the opposite effect of getting crampy runs. I was in the second group! UGG!) Top that off with getting home, having to go potty BAD and finding that my dogs had chewed through the baby gate, pooped and peed all over my BRAND NEW 150$ living room rug and scattered food everywhere. Apparently the birds did not like that because they threw their food ALL over the place, I am assuming, AT the dogs! LOL! What a MESS!!! Now tomorrow, I have to get up even earlier (because we are expecting more snow to interfere with the morning rush hour, pick up my BFF and head back to St. Vincent in Indy to attend my nutrition class.
And I spoke briefly to a pretty young girl who was also having an Upper GI and was having a hrd time downing the barium. She had had the RNY 3 months prior and was having lots of complications. When I told her I was having the Lap Band procedure, she said she regretted having had the RNY and wished she had done the band. I REALLY felt sorry for her. She was such a pretty young girl and seemed to really be struggling. All I could think was man I am so glad I have made this choice, rather than going RNY. I really hope she gets things worked out and finds success and health. I really don't think I am gonna regret my choice.
I'll let ya know how tomorrow goes. I'm looking forward to this one, NOT like today! LOL!! :-)
Enjoy the nut class, and please be careful driving! Yeah, that barium was awful. I love how they give you the medicine that fills you with gas, then tell you "don't burp." Right!
The lap band nut class is only half a day, compared to a full day RNY class, so you should be home before too late. Hopefully no more surprises waiting for you tomorrow when you get home!
Here's some tips from a fellow bandster:
At the nut class, they're going to talk about a mandatory milk-based protein drink for 6 weeks after surgery. Unless you LOVE milk, I'd suggest stopping by the Vitamin Shoppe in Clearwater shopping area (86th Street just east of Keystone, in front of a Babies r Us and Barnes and Noble) and picking up some other protein supplements to try, such as Isopure or Muscle Milk lite. The nut will give you a list of other protein alternatives, but these were the best tasting, in my opinion. After 2 days, I couldn't stomach the home-made milk protein drink, but these supplements are going down fine. Or see if there's some local suppliers. But you definitely want to try before you buy a lot. Also consider picking up some Torani sugar-free flavored syrups, they're great for flavoring the home-made protein drink. The best place I know for those is Cost Plus World Market, it's in a shopping strip near St. V Carmel, at 126th and Keystone, next to Old Navy.
Tomorrow is my one week anniversary of getting my band, and I feel great. In fact, I feel so good as I start the day that I think I've been over-doing it and am pooped out and a little sore by the end of the day. Tomorrow I get to eat a little bit of "real" food, no more mushies, and I'm so excited!
Good luck, and keep us updated.
