Oh, well, dangit, the links' working for me, so I dunno....but here's the post it leads to.  It's about Lyndia, and here is her profile:

Inman M.D.Duodenal Switch (07/11/07) Member Since: 01/07/07 [Latest Posts] Okay, I really want to keep this going so we can help Lyndia and her family as much as we can!  I've been so touched by all of us pulling together to make this a happy holiday season for Lyndia and her family.  When I first posted about this, I had no idea the responses I would get.  You all have certainly stepped up to the plate and dontated a wonderful amount of money.  If you haven't had  a chance to read about what we are doing, this is the message I posted earlier this week...... _____________________________________________ I really need your help guys!  You all know about the complications Lyndia has been experiencing with her revision to DS, but there is so many other things happening in her life right now.  One week before her DS, her husband was laid off from his job.  To further complicate the situation, Lyndia was laid off from her job the same day as her 2nd surgery on October 10th.  Currently, the only money they have coming in is from her husband's part time evening job, and it just isn't enough.  With the holiday season coming, I want to do what I can to help out.  So, each year my family adopts a family to support through the season.  It's a great way to teach our kids to give and it's always a lot of fun.  I have had several people pm me asking what they can do for Lyndia and her family.  Mary D has suggested that we all work together to do something special for her family.  So, I have decided to accept donations on her family's behalf to purchase one gift card to Walmart for Lyndia and her husband to purchase presents for their 4 year old son, buy groceries or do whatever they see fit with the money.  I will also purchase a holiday card and include each person's name that is able to contribute.  Every little bit counts, it doesn't have to be a lot. Together, I think we can really help to brighten Lyndia and her family's holiday season. If you would like to send money, you can Paypal the money to my Paypal account at [email protected] If you would like to send something by mail, please pm me for my address or Lyndia's address.   Thank you all so much!  I love our DS family and I feel so lucky to be getting to know so many of you here! _____________________________________________________________________ Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.  You have brought tears to my eyes with the love you have all shown.  Thank you all for paying it forward to our fellow DSer!!!!!  Love,  Lori

Lea Ann, pardon my using your post as a soapbox, but I know you'll forgive me :-).

I do hope that many of you will read up on Lyndia's predicament. She has had dire postop complications and, if I understand correctly, is STILL in the hospital. Last I heard an actual timeline, she'd been in the hospital for a month, and that's been a while.  She is/was the family breadwinner. Her job has been eliminated. Her husband's part time income will not keep them afloat until she is able to work *and* to find new employment. They are behind on their mortgage and will soon be facing foreclosure.  This isn't just about providing some Christmas cheer. This is about their very survival....roof over their heads and food on the table and whatnot.....including their four year old child.  It has come to my attention that there is a sentiment among some folks that Lyndia "should be trusting God to provide for her."  My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, God IS providing for her, and WE are among the tools God is using.  I am reminded of this song, made popular by the group Casting Crowns: But if we are the body Why aren't His arms reaching? Why aren't His hands healing? Why aren't His words teaching? And if we are the body Why aren't His feet going? Why is His love not showing them there is a way? There is a way  If you cannot afford to give a monetary gift, then rest assured that your good thoughts and support in prayer are just as welcome and certainly important. This offer I have made is simply a way of reaching out and making Lyndia's need known....and giving a little tangible "thank you" to those who are interested.

Thanks for saying so, Kelly.  I really needed to hear this cuz someone PMd me that I should stop guilting people into giving handouts and that Jesus would provide for Lyndia.  Prayers are really great, but the cashier does NOT accept them at the Piggly Wiggly. I know, because I tried.  I loaded up the checkout with some groceries for Lyndia and her family, and some booze for myself--I'm no nun-- and said "It's on Jesus." She looked at me and told me to get the f*ck out of her line or she'd call Johnny Law on me. I told her, no seriously, God will provide for my friend in need, and she told me to step aside she had real customers to take care of. I told her that she was making a mistake. Jesus said the check was in the mail. I am now writing this post from the back of a squad car. Actually, it's a pickup truck with a hound dog in it, but the sheriff does drive it. Don't worry, I'm sure God will get me out of here.

Oh good grief!  Some people have too much time on their hands!  It's not like you or any of us are demanding a donation!  It's a simple request to help a fellow person in need!  Not to mention you get 3 awesome gifts for it!  It's like shopping for Christmas presents! Jesus is great, but he doesn't go to Walmart and load up a cart of food and bring it to you. I think you are doing a fantastic job at helping out Lyndia!  I hope we all can make her situation a little better! Cheers!
