Hi everyone, I'm totally stumped in a way on how to answer this question. Why do you feel that you can make the lifestyle changes necessary to be successful after bariatric  surgery Vs dieting in the past?  My answer would prolly be that diets always failed me, and WLS will give me the tool I need to be successful.  Does that sound ok. if not any ideas?  Thanks a million.

Melissa, Speaking as someone way over on the other side of the fence (+3 yr post-op), I think I would answer it just a little differently that I would had pre-op. In fact, pre-op, I may have answered very much as you did. Now though, knowing what it takes to keep the weight off, I would answer it more like this: I know that for me to keep weight off that it will take a lifestyle change. I have tried diets and they only worked for a short while. They were just too hard to stick with. Having bariatric surgery will give me the tool I need to help me make these changes permanent, and part of my everyday living. Word it however you want, but I would be sure to include (and mean it) that you know that it is going to take a lifestyle/behavoir change in order to be sucessful and that you feel that bariatric surgery is the tool you need to help you implement those changes. That tool will help you the first year or so but after that, if you hadn't made some changes in your behavior, the weight will come back. Honestly, to be sucussful long term, those changes is what is needed. Good luck! Sherri

I'm with Sherri... I also worded it somewhat how you did though preop.. Looking back post op I realize I play a whole lot bigger part in my losing weight than I thought I would. It sounds funny to say that but even at 6 months out I know that if I eat the wrong things or don't eat enough (which is my problem right now) that I just don't lose weight.
