Possibly uler? Help!! I'm in horrible pain

I am suffering terribly since my 2nd fill on Tuesday.  I am in so much pain, my stomach, every where.  I burp constantly and it even hurts to move.  My stomach is so sensitive and even water hurts as it gets past my band.  My band is fine.  Everything goes thru just fine.  But as soon as anything, liquid or solids go thru, I can feel it immediately.  Three or four seconds after swallowing and I am bent over, in horrible pain .  Tylenol 3 does little.  I was at the toilet heaving just an hour ago.  First time to throw up, just heaving nothing coming up.  Some sliming but like I said, the band is fine.  I know its coincidence, all of this and my fill on Tuesday.  Do you think its an ulcer?  I have had one before, years ago. I am only post op 10 weeks with my band.  I cant tell you how bad this hurts.  I see stars when I have to drink water and I hold my breath, it hurts so badly.  Please someone, tell me what to do.  I have lost 9 pounds in 5 days.  I cant eat or drink anything. I am quite nervous about this.  Not sure what to do?  Is this an emergency?  I tend to have high pain tolerance and hold off going to dr. until very last monent. I am new to Indiana forum.  Didn't even know you all were here.

I know nothing about lapbands or ulcers but I say go to the ER.  The vomiting and pain are enough to get you there.  If you can't keep anything down you're going to dehydrate as well and that will only make things worse.   Does your surgeon have an emergency number or plan?   I really wish I could help.  The boards are usually pretty slow on Sundays.   Please get it checked out and let us know how you're doing. Blessings, Jacqui

THANK YOU FOR REPLYING.  THE VOMITING ONLY OCCURED ONCE, BOUT AN HOUR AGO.  NOTHING CAME UP OF COURSE BUT IT WAS AWFUL. LASTED JUST A FEW MINUTES AND ITS BEEN QUIET SINCE THEN.  I JUST FEEL SILLY GOING TO E.R WITH THIS.  NOT SURE WHAT I AM GOING TO DO.  STILL TRYING TO FIGURE THIS WHOLE MESS OUT. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A STOMACH PROBLEM TO YOU?  ITS OBVIOUSLY NOT THE BANK CAUSE IT FOOD AND LIQUID GO THRU JUST FINE.  ITS JUST AFTER THEY PASS THE BAND THAT ALL HELL BREAKS OUT.

This is definitely not normal for the band, and I think it's more than a coincidence that it's been going on since your last fill.  Were you having any pain or nausea at all before the fill?  Any heartburn?  If it's all come on suddenly since the fill, then you probably need a small un-fill.  An ulcer can hurt, but might also cause bleeding ... are you seeing any red or coffee-ground blood when you vomit, or black stools?  These are all signs of a bleeding ulcer.  If you're not yet taking an antacid, I suggest you start taking either Zantac 150mg or Pepcid AC 10mg twice daily, and call Dr. Stanish Monday morning!

Also, how can you be sure you're feeling food "go through the band" fine?  I know what restriction feels like, and how it feels if I don't chew carefully, but I'd be hard pressed to say exactly when food is moving through my band.  I think it's possible that what you're feeling is the food pass through the lower esophageal sphincter (the band of muscle at the bottom of the esophagus that helps prevent reflux of stuff from stomach back up into esophagus).  Then as that food/fluid actually hits the tight band, that might be when you get this excruciating pain.  Just one theory.  Perhaps if Dr. Stanish did a fluoroscopy test for you this week, that would help.  You drink dye and he can see exactly where it is when the pain starts, and see if the band is ok.  The dye can even help outline an ulcer if indeed there's one there. Good luck, I hope you get relief quick!

I AM ALMOST POSITIVE THAT THE FOOD IS PASSING  THRU THE BANK WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.  AS SOON AS I TAKE A SIP, I WAIT A FEW SECONDS AND THEN THE PAIN IN MY 'STOMACH' IS HORRIBLE.  ITS NOT THE BAND AREA, BUT THE WHOLE AREA INFERIOR TO THE RIBS JUST TO THE LEFT OF STERNUM.  ALSO, THE PAIN RADIATES THRU THE STOMACH AREA.  I HAD SOLID FOOD THE OTHER DAY AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH RESTRICTION.  ALSO, THE DAY AFTER MY BAND TIGHTENING, EVERYTHING SEEMES GO MOVE JUST FINE. IM NOT SURE WHAT THIS IS, BUT I HAVE ALSO HAD A ULCER BEFORE, YEARS AGO AND THE PAIN IS FAMILIAR.  I HAVE BEEN TAKING MEDS FOR ACID SECRETION, PPI ETC. I FEEL A BIT AWKWARD TO CALL THE DR. TONIGHT.  I TALKED WITH RN FRIDAY BUT I THINK THAT SHE MISUNDERSTOOD MY COMPLAINT.  JUST DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.  I GUESS I WILL WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW.  I DONT THINK ITS PANCREATISIS OR GALLSTONES, BUT WHO KNOWS. OH YEAH, IT ALSO HURTS JUST TO MOVE.  WHETHER I AM BENDING OVER, GETTING UP OFF THE COUCH OR MOVING AROUND.  IT DOESN'T HURT AS BADLY AS WHEN I TAKE ANY LIQUIDS OR BURP OF COURSE, BUT I FEEL DISCOMFORT.  SOMETIMES I CAN FEEL IT AT THE L SCAPULA AS WELL.

Hi Jessica, Went to see Dr. Stanish yesterday, Monday, and they did an UGI.  Everything looked good with the band, no slipping, thank goodness.  Have tons of gas and not sure where it is coming from.  This could definately be part of the pain.  Going to go bak to Dr.'s on Thursday and will do tests I think to rule out ulcer.  I am just relieved that is not a problem with the band per say.  I do feel a tiny bit better, taking lots of 'gas-x' pills and trying to get some napping in due to lack of sleep at night. Thank you so much for your concern.  Let me know if I can do anything for you as well.

Jen
