Healthy Indiana Plan

Hi Guys, I've hit a speed bump along the road of getting approved for my surgery. I have been covered with Medicaid for the last several months as my husband and I have both been full time students and we basically had not income. The problem is that my husband decided to get a day job and go to school full time at night since paying our bills was getting harder and harder. Well I got a letter yesterday that we now make too much money and I am going to lose my medicaid. This was very upsetting and last night I was shedding a few tears, feeling like all my hopes to get my health back were crashing down around me. We discussed my husband possibly quiting this job because he really doesn't make very much money at all, not enough to pay our mortgage and bills, which we are getting help to make right now from my mother in law for whom I am very greatful. I don't want him to have to do this but we CANNOT afford for me to not have health insurance. Even if I wasn't getting my surgery I have diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety and some vision problems for which I have been seeing an opthamologist. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the new Healthy Indiana Plan? I looked at it online but it never tells me what I want to know. Do they cover gastric bypass? Should I do whatever it takes to keep my medicaid? I don't know what to do and I need some advice here and hopefully some info. Thanks guys. Stephanie

Stephanie I really dont know anything about the Healthy Indiana Plan.  Not to discourage you anymore than you already are but.... with pre-existing medical problems it is very hard to get insurance or the premiums are very high.  So that is something to think about.    Dont give up on this journey, it may just be stalled for now, but things will work out in the end.

I have applied for HIP for me and my family and you cannot be denied for medical reasons and what you would pay is very little depending on your income.  I don't know if it would cover the gastric or not but I believe (i'm not totally sure) that it is more or less a health savings account that totals $1,100 between your contributions and the states plus a $500 wellness that covers Dr's and Meds.  Once those are spent then it rolls over into a normal insurance plan.  What it covers??  I think most things I know you choose between Anthem and another I choose Anthem becuase when I worked I had them and they covered things pretty good.  Also you need to apply NOW they are only taking 135,000 people this year and they started applications on Dec 17th I sent mine in on Dec 29th by fax and they still haven't approved or denied they say 30 to 45 days. Good Luck Tina

Hey Guys, Thanks for all the info. I called them and gastric bypass is a covered benefit under the MDWise by Americhoice plan. I called them today and she told me it is a covered benefit as long as it is medically necessary. Dr. Huse is not listed as a provider with HIP yet but she said they are receiving hundreds of new doctors registering as providers everyday. I tried to call Renee' at his office but only got voicemail today. Hopefully she will call me back on Monday and I am going to ask her to PLEASE get doctor Huse registered as a provider ASAP...lol. I got my app and filled it out and will take it to the local office on Monday along with the required documentation. Wish me luck! 30 to 45 days isn't too bad and as far as I can tell I should qualifiy with no problem. I will keep everyone posted with this situation as soon as I know more. Thank you so much for your support and knowledge, you guys are great.
