Requirements before surgery???
I must have misplaced my orginal packet. I thought it was with all of my dietician info, and it is not. So, I am not sure what Dr. Inman's requirements all are. I am not due for my pap until April 28th, so I am not sure if I need to have it early, and pay for it out of pocket or not. Also the mammogram, is that something Dr. Iman orders or my gyn? Is there anything else I can get done or scheduled know?
Also, I know this is putting the cart before the horse, but I have already scheduled a family vacation in Colorado the last week of June. So, if I have surgery in May, do you think I will be okay to travel that far in a car?
Just a little anxious, and like to plan as much as I can before I become so anxious I forget something.
Thanks
kim
My surgeon was Dr. Evanson, who is Dr. Inman's partner, and I think their pre-op rules are the same. They ask for a pap and mammogram in the past year - as long as she knows you're planning on getting them done before surgery, she should be ok. I had my pap 3 weeks before surgery, and asked my Family doctor to write a note saying I had a check-up. The surgeon's office was satisfied with that. The mammogram should be ordered by your gyn or family doctor, whoever usually does it for you.
What procedure are you planning? Have you had your initial consult yet, or are you already approved?
I am having RNY. Yes, I was approved on the Jan 30th. No, I haven't had the initial consult yet. I thought that was one of the things the nurse would schedule when she called. Is that not what you did? I mean I had a quick 10 minute meeting with Dr. Inman after the required class, but I thought I would have to meet with her again before the surgery.
I guess I should have just asked more questions. I was just surprised by the approval, and it slipped my mind.
Thanks for answering my questions. I really appreciate your help.

I didn't have Dr. Inman but I was asked if all my female stuff was current and what not and they were fine with that. As far as traveling soo soon I would wait and see how you feel and what not. Most people feel aok post op. My sister went back to work as a teacher 6 days post op but I still was very fatigued, tired and grumpy, 1-2 months post op, of course I've had a lil bit of a bumpy road too and was hooked up to TPN 24/7 at that point soooo I don't know. I'd definitely think bout pushing it back a lil bit though. JMO
Thanks. I know it is a crazy thing to think about already. But before reading the post that Dr. Inman would be out for March, I thought I would have plenty of time to heal and adjust to my new stomach.
And I have already told my nephew that I would take him home to Colorado, if he flew in. I can change plans, and stay home. My husband and kids can go alone. But then it wouldn't be a family vacation....I guess like you said..wait..wait...wait. I think I am pretty use to that....lol
Thanks

Hi, Kim!
I was approved for my lap RNY with Dr. Inman just before Christmas. I had been to the information seminar and had already had a brief meeting with Dr. Inman at that time. So I thought that I would be able to have my surgery sometime in January....wrong! Colleen, the office manager told me that Dr. Inman's surgery schedule was pretty full. My surgery date is April 30th! I even told Colleen that I would love to be on a waiting list, in case they had a cancellation or something. (She said that everyone tells her that!) I am climbing the walls right now. It is so hard to wait but I know that Dr. Inman is worth waiting for. Just thought I would tell you my experience. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your surgery date.
Marsha
Thanks to everyone for your info. I was actually going to be asked to be put on that waiting list as well....so I pray for a short waiting list. I guess no one can wait to be at a healthy and functioning weight.
So....back to waiting for a date.
You are all wonderful.
And I am thankful that since I am under 40 I won't have to have a mammogram.
Thanks again to all of you
Kim
Angie,
I don't think Dr. Brooks will do a pap since you have a gyn, and no you don't need a mammo if you're under 40, as long as you've had a breast exam with the gyn in the past year. I'm 36, and I wasn't asked to do a mammo. In fact, some gyns say certain women only need a pap every 2-3 years - if your gyn doesn't feel you're due for a pap, she can write a brief note that you're "up to date" on your preventive care, and I suspect Dr. Inman will be ok with that.
