How long did you guys lose hair for?
I've been losing hair since bout 8 weeks post op. I know a lot of it is with the protein struggles but the dietitians have been telling me for about a month to worry bout protein but to make sure I'm getting the calories and carbs too. I'm getting bout 40 g of protein still, some days its closer to 50 but I'm struggling bad. Anyways I don't know if the lack of protein is the sole reason for the hair loss though. I think my anemia is bad still. I'm bruising like crazy and have no clue where half of them are coming from. I have a bruise from where I sat with my legs crossed even. I haven't a clue whats going on but it's driving me nuts. I went from not being able to get a scrunchie around my hair more than once to having to tie it 6-7 times. I'm really getting bummed out about it though.
I've thought of doing biotin but I'm taking vitamins 6 times a day already, I may have to do it anyways but I'm just flustered. Any suggestions for me?
I do not post often but I do read everyday. I am sorry that you have ha so many problems. I am 9 months out and have had a smooth journey for the most part. I started losing my hair at about 3 months and it lasted for 3 months. I was on biotin and still take it. My hair is short so the new growth blends in. Just keep doing what you are supposed to and your days will be brighter soon Hugs Deborah
You need the Biotin..It is a must. I take a handfull of viatmins every day too but Biotin is a must.. After 2.5 years I started loosing my hair again but it has slacked off., Probably lack of protien, which I have increased,. But I have been on Biotin since the beginning and almost lost no hair loss at the beginning..

Misty, I'd try biotin. Some folks swear by it. I'll be honest though, it didn't do much for me. I also tried Nioxin shampoo. Didn't do much either. I had thinning for four to five months before it started coming back in. My solution was to get cut short, which helped hide it better. Now, I've kept it short for a year, and I love it this way :-)
Misty,
Biotin is something I recommend to ALL pre-ops! I don't know why nuts wait until after hair loss starts to tell their patients about it.....??? It is a very inexpensive vitamin...maybe $2-3 for a bottle of 100! And I always get the highest strength I can find that says 'tablet' or 'caplet' on the bottle. There are 'capsules' out there too...I avoid them for every med & vitamin (they just pass right through me). I don't worry about the name brand of them.
My hair loss always starts about 4-5 months post-op and lasts for ~6-8 weeks. Since I've been taking Biotin, I still have the hair loss, but not as much of it. I also prefer my hair short. I tried it longer but had another surgery and it ended up way too thin for my fine hair.
