Did any of y'all see The Early Show this morning?  There is a Representative in Mississippi who was trying to pass a bill to BAN OBESE PEOPLE FROM EATING IN RESTAURANTS!!!! Their thoughts were get people to talking and admitting to obesity and that will help obese people to stop and think about becoming healthy and quit eating! WRONG!!!!!!!!!  The chairman of the Obesity Coalition stated that is NOT the way to help..."Let's keep discriminating and belittling the obese....THAT will help them to not go to food for comfort, WRONG"  I reckon I fell into the trap...I AM DISCUSSING this....so I reckon it did prove to cause reaction and discussion....THANK GOD it did not pass! If anyone is interested in reading about this...here is the CBS NEWS website... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/02/05/national/main37904 18.shtml I hope Mitch doesn't try something like this. I have to say...his lose weight and stop smoking programs are a good thing...but please do not make it state legislation! Thanks for letting me rant and rave! Y'all are the best Posse! hugggggggggs Janene

I was just about to post this Janene!  I thought that this was freaking rediculous!  I completely Understand that they are worrying about people's health, but at the same time...why not just provide healthy options instead!!!!  Also Obese people are not going to quit eating, Obese people get hungry like everyone else!

Also, if they are worried that Obese people eat more than skinny people, that is completely not the case!  Skinny people's stomach can expand more when they eat, thus they can usually eat more than obese people.  How do you think that the hot dog champion wins those contest.  There is an obese guy in the competition, but he never wins!

Also, they are just going to lose tons of business, for the simple fact that 30% of the Adult population in Mississippi is Obese!  That is not even overweight, that is just OBESE!!!

I can't even beleive that something like this would get passed, it just really ****** me off!  This is just Segregation all over again.  Instead of black and white, it's skinny and fat.

OMG Brok you are so right!  Thankfully it did NOT pass....but I DID register on CBS.com to post my BLOG...I have NEVER done anything like that before...I encourage everyone to do this!  Here is what I wrote...

When did the government decide their major job was to tell Americans how to live their lives and not to protect from outside hostile forces!

I am a 50 year old woman who is considered Morbidly Obese and had gastric bypass surgery in Sept 2007. So, blogger Displeased...There  IS hope for adults!

Mr. Nadglowski is right when he said "Unfortunately, there's this view that if you stigmatize someone who's obese or you discriminate against them, you're going to help them lose weight,"  "But research actually shows this is absolutely not true."

How many people do you know who have quit smoking or drinking or doing drugs or doing anything addictive in nature has "quit" because they were discriminated against or nagged at to quit?  It doesn't work that way!

Americans need to stand up and take back their rights and tell government to butt out!

Brok...good to see ya posting!  I have missed my "snow buddy"  LOL huggggggggggs Janene

I couldn't believe this! I certainly hope that all the obese & overweight voters in Mississippi get out and let their feelings about this known where it counts...at the polls!! If 30% of them are obese...I would guess that at least 21% more are overweight! There just aren't that many perfect BMI people around. What gall! First it's smokers. Smoking is legal if you're over 18. It's bad for your health & for those around you, but shoot, you pay enough taxes per pack that we don't have to over-tax others so we won't make it illegal. So...we'll let you keep smoking, just not where it could affect others.  Then it's seatbelts. You're an adult, but we are going to make you wear a seatbelt in a car..but you don't even have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle!?!?! (yep, sounds like someone is really keeping MY best interest in mind, huh?) I do agree with carseats for kids..but requiring seatbelts for adults? Let them decide!! And now..obesity. Everyone HAS to eat to live. But...if you enjoy it to the point of being obese, you can't do it in public?!?! Wow..to be as perfect as some politicians seem to think they are! It is getting more and more like Big Brother watching...isn't it? Thanks for sharing this Janene! Sherri

I love how the reporter interrupted him and said that if this had been an issue about race he'd be asked to leave his position or be fired, hahahah! So true. Discrimination is dicrimination whether it be race/color/or whatever. He should be asked to leave his position not to mention that now that this has be NATIONALLY viewed and his response to it he has representated his state in a very slight narrow unlikeable view to millions apon millions of Americans. Did you also notice how the rep from the Obesity Coalition said that other states have implemented Medicaid payments to groups like Weigh****chers as a solution for obesity and that maybe Mississippi should follow suite instead of embrassing themselves nationally like this? Also while on the subject - Someone please remove the pole from Oprah's butt about wls. Is it that she's jealous that she's still fat? Or is it that she truely feels confindant about so uneducated about this subject?
