Local hospital rant ...

Ugh ... I had to go pick up the labs that weren't in yet when I had gone to my last surgeons appointment because I was curious what my vit d and b1 were and tried to get copies of the ones I had done with them because Dr C kept my copies of them because they NEVER sent her the results even though she ordered them. Anyways the lady at the hospital  told me she was gonna charge me 20.00 for them since I had picked them up previously. I told her well just give me the b1 and vit d because I didn't get them yet and my labs from the ER the on the 26th or whatever. Anyways they printed ALL the labs because they had to because they couldnt find the vit d and b1 in the computer and then sat them in front of me and threw them away instead of letting me have them. Sooo they printed them and then friggin threw them away. How silly is that?? It's like they were saying ha ha ha ha ha Oh well.. I found out my b1 is normal (lower normal but normal) but my Vit D was pretty low according to the flag and interpretation I have a moderate Vit D deficiency. This bugs me a lil because my PTH was super high and I heard the combination of the two isn't a good thing?? I called Dr C's office to see if they had gotten them and to tell them my Vit D was low since our hospital never sent them.

Misty, That is crazy! As much money as hospitals make and they charge us for our results that we have to pay to get in the first place.  Hope you get your Vit D levels figured out.

That is so stupid!  I worked in healthcare for six years and never understood charging patients for THEIR OWN RECORDS!!  Or if they HAVE to charge, then just charge for the actual expense--which for one sheet of paper is like 5 cents (if THAT!).  And then to just throw it away--super stupid!!  They already had to print it out--so just give it to you!  I would call the hospital and complain--pointing out the ridiculousness of this practice!

I wouldn't object so much to paying for the printing cost or whatever heck I wasn't near as upset bout having to pay for them as I was the fact that they printed them anyways and then tossed em in the recycling bin.
