I called and moved my appointment with my allergy/asthma doc to today. My Asthma has been so out of control since yesterday I was doing breathing treatments every 90 mins and needing my inhaler between. I've got an ear infection and sinus infection, he's pretty sure strep throat but he didn't have the stuff to do a strep culture, bronchitis and acute exacerbation. I have to go up the next two days for a lung check and antibiotic shots. He also put me on oral antibiotics and told me that if things are significantly improved Friday I may think bout bringing an overnight bag with me. My spirometry tests were at 1.25-1.6 even after breathing treatments sooo thats really not good. My peak flows are only running bout 100-150. My o2 sats were 94-96. Sooo we'll see.. He gave me steroids and Codiclear cough syrup, I know I need to double my protonix while on the steroids (Dr C's office has had me do this every time). Is the codeine okay for me post op??

Misty, I would guess that it is okay..but..I would make sure I only took it at home...close to bed. I know that with NyQuil and any pain relievers, they hit me ALOT quicker than they did pre-op. I can be a VERY cheap date..1 TBSP of NyQuil and it's Good Nite Sherri! I'd probably also start off with 1/2 dose and wait 1/2 hour or so to take the other half until you know how you are going to react to it. Sherri

I totally agree with Sherri.  I took a dose of Nyquil last night and laid down on the bed with the puppy.  Apparently sometime later, I am told, I got up and let the puppy out of the bedroom.  I don't recall doing anything like that.  Kinda scary. Codeine is not on the "do not take" list but it should be approached carefully.

Sigh as much as I need it I'm very hesitant to take it. I asked the pharmacist if it can hurt my tummy or cause an ulcer (I'm on steroids also which makes my risk super high anyways) because already having had an ulcer post op I don't want that ever again and he said that it can in some people. I'm gonna double my protonix because of the steroids sooo maybe that will help make it better. I may call up to Marta and see what they say bout it.

Codeine is not an NSAID, it's very similar to the liquid lortab the hospital probably gave you for post-op pain.  It shouldn't cause an ulcer.  But it can make you dopey and constipated!

I am on 40 Mg of Protonix BID (twice a day) by mouth for now while I'm back on steroids for my breathing of course the Prednisone scares me because it gives me stomach issues (even preop it did) but I have to breathe lol sooo therefore I must take it.

I've been on Protonix for a lil over a year now I was on it for really bad GERD preop. Post op I had taken pepcid and prevacid and ended up back on Protonix.
