This Old Timer Has Questions!
Hello..I am 4 years out from my surgery and I've never really been able to do protein powders/shakes. I thought since recently I haven't had too much trouble with milk I could give the protein powders a whirl..I mixed it with milk and I gurgled and gurgled all evening ..my stomach was pretty loud! I still have a little trouble with milk. I got the Body Fortress at Walmart..$13.92 not bad..
I than tried it later on mixed in water..GROSS!!! I tried warming it just a bit in the microwave..to slightly warm..tasted like thin cheap vending machine hot chocolate...blah..
I also got some protein bars at Walmart that aren't too bad..pure protein.
Anybody have any ideas for getting the protein in without breaking the bank?
On a different note, I work at Jenny Craig now..just recently started..I love it there! Anyway.. I am going to give the program a try. This should be interesting to see how I do on it. I'm excited about it! Alot of the entrees are fairly high in protein! Plus I get a discount on my food (50% off) and I pay no program fees etc..
I thought some of you that are far out like me and might have had a little bit of a regain might find this interesting..I'll keep everyone updated on how I do..that way I have the accountability factor working for me!
Thanks!
I personally hate the powders. I get the pure protien ready to drink at Trader Joe's. They are good. I also drink low carb Slimfast. I love the Carbmaster yogurt at Kroger. It has 12 grams of protien and I think only 80 calories. I have put powdered milk in them to up the protien & make a smoothie of it. Please keep us updated on the Jenny Craig program. I heard that their meals are good.
I don't do well with powders either. I do best with AchievOne through BariatricEating.com. I've checked around and they are the cheapest anywhere (including ordering them direct from the manufacturer). They are a little pricey at ~$27 per case of 12, but at least I can drink them. The cheapest ones cost more in the long run if I can't drink them.
I'm +3 yr out and still losing. As long as I'm within my 'normal BMI range, I'm happy.

Hey! I actually met you back in October. I was in Indy for my pre-op stuff and decided to attend a support group meeting at St. Vs. You were there and introduced yourself to me. You may not remember me but that's ok.
Anyway, I had my 3 month check up on Thursday and stopped in at Meijers on my way out of town. I found some drinks called Stacker 2 Protein Water and they are really good. They have 20 gm of protein. I bought the pink lemonade and the grape flavors. I really like both. I wish I had bought more but I was afraid it would taste like the Isopure and I can't stand that stuff. There is also a green apple flavor. Each bottle was 1.99 and is a 20oz bottle.
I also eat the pure protein bars and found that I like the fruit ones better than the other flavors. The strawberry and blueberry are good. The Smores flavor is pretty good too.
I also printed off the coupon for the Designers Whey 2 go and bought a box of the chocolate. It's pretty nasty if you mix it like it says to but I've been adding it to my hot chocolate and can't taste any difference. Each packet adds 10 gms of protein and every little bit counts. They are a bit expensive ($15 for 10 packets) but you get $2 off with the coupon.
Don't be a stranger!
Hope this helps.

Me remember? Ha! I have a horrible memory anymore when it comes to names and faces. However for some reason your face does look familar to me. Your avatar looks great..you look so happy! Thanks for the protein info. That protein water sounds pretty good. Somene suggested Special K protein water..I've never used it because I vaguely remember checking the label and seeing how low the protein content is..thinking not worth my money or time..but 20 grams..that is good! I'll have to go check out Meijer. Heck..I could use one of my pure protein bars and one of those waters as kind of a snack while at work..kind of slowly munch on it throughout day and that'd be 40 grams..that's good and I wouldn't feel like ugh..I have to eat and drink this crap..
Thanks Jacqui!
Kathleen
