Dr. McEwen, Fishers, IN

I've been lurking for over a year trying to decide if Lap Band is for me.  I finally made an appointment with Dr. McEwen because he has done over 200 bands (seems to have the most experience in my area) but I sure don't see many of his patients posting on OH.  I'd love to know how his patients are doing with regard to complications, weight loss, his after care, etc.  Any Dr. McEwen patients out there?  Thanks!

Hi.. Welcome out of Lurkdom. I hope you will introduce yourself and tell us abit about 'you'. What part of the state do you live in? I've belonged to the board for several years..and I don't think I've ever heard of a Dr. McEwen. Hopefully, someone else will speak up who knows of him. If so, it will be someone else who has also been lurking. We are a pretty good bunch of people here...as you should know by now from lurking...so please feel free to join in! Sherri ps..Jodi (Jo-mac) is a VERY successful lap-bander. If there's any ??? you have about the procedure, she would definately be a terrific go-to source.

A lady I work with's brother went for a seminar up there because I hadn't heard of him either until then. He is a Firefighter in Mooresville and is 360. He went and found out his Insurance didn't cover WLS. Self pay was not an option, so i think he dropped it.That's all I know. (And def. introduce yourself and don't be shy.)

Check with your insurance, because many insurance companies will only cover the surgery if performed at a bariatric "center of excellence," which in this area is St. Vincent, Clarian North and St. Francis.  If this is the case for you, then I suggest either Dr. Christopher Evanson, Dr. Christine Gupta or Dr. Brenda Cacucci at St. Vincent.  It's odd to me that I've never seen a patient of Dr. McEwen's post either on the Indiana or the Lap-Band boards.  But when I checked out his testimonials under the "find a bariatric surgeon" section, they look good. Thanks for the replies, I t find it odd as well that none of his patients post here.  This morning I looked at every one of the profiles of his 61 "testimonials"  and only 7 had any sort of a profile.  Most just contained the surgeon review & thats it...no posts, no questions... nothing.  Of the 7 with a profile, several just seemed like a advertisement for him.  I made the appointment with him because of the number of bands he's done and it is the only bariatric surgery he does.  I would certainly think if he's done over 200 bands odds are someone would have posted here.  I've struggled for over a year on whether to have this surgery and have finally decided to go for it.  I'm to the point that now it's coming down to choosing a surgeon as I will be self pay.  I selected Dr. McEwen due the number of bands placed but now I'm questioning this choice.  Aside from OH, where else could I get statstics regarding a surgeon's experience with the band? Thanks so much!

Dr Brenda Cacucci at St. Vincents Bariatric Center of Excellence did my band on 12/26/07 and she did a fantastic job!  I love her.  She is an awesome doctor.  My incisions were smooth, no bruising at all, very little pain or swelling and very little gas pain after surgery.  The whole thing took about 35 minutes.  The follow up care is EXCELLENT.  I highly recommend St. V's and Dr. Caccuci!
