Just wanted to let eveyone know that I had my RNY on Friday (2/1) and came on Mon (2/4) evening.  I was having some pain management issues so they kept me an extra night.  I had family with me all week so I have not been able to get online and send an update.  I have not had any trouble keeping anything down...just a little trouble getting in all of the meds, fluids, and protien.  However, each day seems to getting easier.   I do have one question ( sorry it this is TMI)....but I have not had a BM since the day before surgery and pre-op I was very regular.  Is this normal?  I am not miserable...just seems weird.  Should I call the dr tomorrow?  Of will nature eventually take over? Holly, That is pretty normal following any surgery really. The anaesthesia (sp??) slows everything down some. When you have weight loss surgery, you're going to have even more of a slow down. Just consider how little you are putting in your body compared to pre-op. It's going to take it a little bit to have enough waste to get rid of. I wouldn't get concerned unless you start having discomfort/pain because of being truly constipated. Are you passing gas ok? Usually, the more you walk, the more you'll pass. I resort to chewable Gas-X when needed. Congrats on being on this side of the surgery. oh..it's pretty normal to have trouble getting in all the meds, food, water, and protein. It does get alot easier! I promise!! Sherri

Holly,   Welcome to the losing side, and beginning of your new, healthy life!!! I agree with Sherri, it does take time for your body to adjust, you are taking less in and just keep trying to get the requirements in. It will get easier and better as you go along.(My birthday was 5 days after surgery & my daughters put a candle in my mash potatoes- how cute is that?!) Enjoy your special day  & celebrate the new you!!!Happy birthday ! (((((hugs))))) Ellen
