This board seems friendly and supportive..they are having a dinner get together March 1st I believe on the Westside at this nice little place called Paragon..I like that place myself anyway..so I was happy to hear that's where this dinner is at..it'll be my first OH get together! About support..my husband was there the day of my surgery. He was there to take me home which was over the weekend so that might help if yours falls on a weekend..with your husband's schedule. I went home on late Saturday night and by Monday morning I was fine by myself..and I had open rny which it seems like anymore lap is becoming the standard..I kind of wished I could have had it..but that's neither here or there now!  Just be sure though you have other support in place if your husband is not available and if (God forbid!) something should happen..someone available to take you to the ER...not being negative..realistic..okay? So aside from anything happening..you'll probably be okay if you follow all the instructions given to you. And be prepared to be a little afraid going home..I know I was..they take such good care of you in the hospital..reminding you when to eat, drink, breath on your spirometer, and walking that when it's time to go home..it is scary!! You're on your own..it's up to you now..I didn't think of that at all...so it was a bit of a rude awakening to me..but good too because it made me try that much harder to do everything just right..I was so afraid of messing up! LOL It's funny now looking back on that time..see..I survived! You will too! Good luck!

I did it alone.  I decided to have the surgery on my own.  Then I scheduled the consultation and went on my own.  I filled out all the paperwork and insurance forms on my own.  I did all the preop testing on my own. My mom was there when I had my surgery, but a week later I was on my own again. I had a great support group from the hospital that I went to... I didn't know them until I started going.  Now I still email with them on a regular basis.  I had my OH friends. I'm doing fine...

I wish I lived closer and I could help with the support!  I do agree it will be better if you can find a surgery buddy in the area...    I can be your long distance Cheerleader...    Go Linda Go!!!  Good Luck with everything!

Linda, Just wanted to hop on and say a quick hello and welcome you to the Indiana board! This is a great group of people. We have made a lot of friendships and have given lots of support to one another from WLS- to everyday support! Thats what we are all about here. I hope that you continue to read and post on the boards and look forward to meeting you at some time, may be at an upcoming event. I live on the eastside, am currently seeking employment so if you are out and about or needing company, give me a holler and maybe we could meet up! Some times when some of us are meeting we open it up to ann all out invite- those are great and it helps us ALL know that we have support in our corners- MANY of us have had some bumps in our lives and are needing extra encouragement, even if it isn't ALL WLS related, we care! I am on the Hoosier Directory, you can get my info there or just hit the contact button and leave me a message! Again, WELCOME! Hugz Dawn
