okay he said hes going to recope me and if my ulcer isnt any better him and need to discuss options he threw 2 out at me a new pouch or a reversal? has any one had a reversal? i herd it was more dangerous is it? he has me on tpn picc line thats going okay atleast im getting my nutrients because with this ulcer i cannot eat i take 2 bites and im in severe pain... if any one can help with this info id apreciate it
I am sooo sorry you're having to go thru this. You're right about dr evanson, he does just throw it out there and tell it like it is, but a little compassion never hurt anyone!!! I haven't heard about reversals but i know you've gone thru so much, do you want a reversal? I have a good relationship with my pouch so I don't know all you feel, but I wouldn't want to reverse it. I just want you to make a decision you will be happy with. good luck!!
hugs
Amanda
at this point im not really sure what i want-i think just a new pouch and i can baby it and no how to take care of it now? because i wasnt taking that carafate faithfully before because im not a medicine taker and from that i got a large ulcer now and it hurts alot and i started smoking so i no i can quit i quit before surgery for 3 months so i no for a fact i can do that---yeah evanson has his good and bad habits lol him and i really calash-lol i told my hubby im glad im not married to him because wed defintly never agree on anything-lol-and wed argue all the time because we both want to be in charge lol im glad you are doing great!
Sometimes we are so close to a problem we can't think logically. You started smoking again? Is that not addictive and a poor behavior? Please don;t get angry with me but a resolution that a "new pouch" mans another chance and I need to "Pay attention and do what I need to" not what I want to.
Hang in there. Place yourself outside your body and listen to what the Dr. is saying. They have oodles of experience surely you are not the first with this type of problem.
Will be praying for you.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou has done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Missy,
I've had a revision (a new pouch). Mine was do to strictures causing rips in my stoma. I would recommend that over a reversal. When I had my intestinal stuff in October, it was discussed with my family (I was out of it) of possibly having to reverse mine. I'm glad they didn't have to but if they had, I would have been ok. At this point, I do have better eating & exercise habits than I had my entire life.
I agree with E that your smoking again is not good. As many problems as you've had from the get-go, you should had never started back smoking. Hon, I'm not trying to be a b*tch. I quit smoking before my RNY after smoking for 30+ years. I smoked 3-3.5 packs every day (even the days I worked...and I couldn't smoke at work!). I KNOW how hard it is to quit..and because of that, I will never pick them back up. As many problems as I'm had since my RNY, I'd be a fool to ever light up again. Since my RNY (so NOT including it), I have had 15 endoscopes and 9 surgeries SO FAR. Smoking impedes the healing process. The best thing you can do for your RNY is quit smoking and stay off of them.
With whichever route you go, just be sure to do EVERYTHING the doctor tells you to do. If you weren't taking the carafate the way you were suppose to after him pescribing it, I can understand why Dr. E isn't real happy with you. If you told your kid to study for a test and they didn't and they flunked it..then wanted you to do something about their bad grade, how would you feel about it? Just try putting yourself in Dr. E's position.... And no, I dont' know the man. I just know that in the past, if I didn't do what my doc told me to do, I ALWAYS regretted it.
Good luck!

Missy,
Yes, you start all over again at 1-2 ounces and right back at the beginning on the yellow sheets. At least you aren't very far out. I was 6 months out so I was up to 4-5 oz per meal and had to drop back down to 1 oz. It wasn't so bad.
I know many people have said 'quit smoking' and I do think you would heal alot better with your problems now as well as a revision if you start considering yourself a non-smoker from mow on. That's what I tell myself! I'm not an 'ex-smoker'...I'm a 'non-smoker'.
Things can and will get better!

hi sherri im 6 months out of surgery now but i wasnt eating much so thats not going to be that hard to change my eating habbits i was only eating maybe 1-2 ounces any way but at moment im not eating much at all because it hurts to bad-yes i went to a hypnotism before that stated put it in your subconsious mind that im a non smoker i also have the quit smoking cd- do they go through your old insicions? and what happens to the old pouch? thanks for help
Missy,
Wow..it's been 6 months already?!? I didn't realize that time had gone by so quickly.
Yes..they do go through the same incision sites to do the revision. And they usually resection off your present pouch to form your new one. All of it remains in your body though...just like the rest of your born with stomach is still there.
Whatever it takes, please do quit smoking again...and stay off of them. I'm not one of those horrible ex-smokers...every smoker knows exactly what I'm talking about! I never say a word to my dh or kids about them lighting up. BUT...if they were having medical issues, I would.
huggs...
