Anyone from the Fort Wayne area.....
....that had the lap band surgery, and which doctor did you have? So far, the only bariatric surgeon that I can find in the Ft. Wayne area is Dr. Sloan. Is anyone familiar with him and how do you rate him as a bariatric doctor? I am waiting to hear if Medicare has approved him to do the surgery at one of the Ft. Wayne hospitals. I was told to call back at the end of the month and every month after to see if and when he has been approved.
I am from across the state line in Ohio, and need to go somewhere close, so I can attend the consult, the pre-op visits, and the post-op visits and fills.
Thanks in advance!

I lived in Fort Wayne until about 18 months ago and had a consultation with Dr. Sloan. He is the only doctor in the Fort Wayne area that currently does any gastric bypass surgery. I was impressed with him and felt comfortable with him, but at the time he would not do WLS on anyone with a BMI over 45 so I couldn't go through him. He hasn't been doing the surgery a real long time--less than 5 years--but I have heard nothing but good things about him.
Good luck finding a surgeon/center you are comfortable with!
well my DR is not in Fort Wayne but is in Goshen, IN with a place called TEAM BARIATRICS
Ignore her surgeons page here on OH because its not at all up to date. I was self pay with team bariatrics and everything is great. Dr Murphy is absolutely wonderful. I cannot say enough good about her. You must check them out.

i live in fort wayne. i had surgery 3 years ago, and dr. sloan was just getting his bariatrics program underway at that time. while he has been a non-bariatric surgeon for a long time, i wanted someone with more experience specifically in bariatric surgery, so i went to st. vincent's in carmel. a couple years ago when i needed my gallbladder removed, i went to dr. sloan. he was very nice, communicated well and did a great job on the gallbladder surgery.

Thank you, SarahMichelle and Deb for your replies. I checked out Dr. Sloan's bariatric experiences, and he has done 22 lap band surgeries so far. Because of the location, I think I will wait until I hear if he is approved by Medicare and have him do my lap band surgery. I just hope the 22 surgeries are enough experience for him since he is such a good surgeon otherwise.
Waiting...waiting...still waiting!
