I have already purchased a bike for the "exercise nazi"! Dh & I are going to do a lot of bike riding this summer. I am kind of dreading the pre op testing tomorrow because I cant imagine that it will take up all the time. I have to be there at 8:45 and then my next appt with Dr Brooks is at 1:45. Will the first part really take that long? The paperwork said that I can go to lunch in between, but I am still worried about sitting around being bored. How many test will I have?

Gee, it has been a while since I did them.  It varies in the order you get them done by how many are scheduled that day.  There is the blood and urine test,  they do a breathing test (pulmonary function) an EKG, the rest if I remember correctly are a couple of x-rays.  One you have to drink that icky barium.  It wasn't as bad as I expected though.  It seems I had my longest time waiting between x-rays and the gall bladder ultra sound.  It did take most of the morning.  Take a book to read.

Hi  I just want to wish you good luck with your surgery and a speedy recovery.  I also have Dr E.  I found out yesterday that my surgery is not until 6/4/08.  I still have a while to go but with the HIPPA laws you should be able to discuss this with him and him not reveal this to anyone.  Hope it all works out for you.  He seems to be a very understanding person. Dr E actually announces it over the hospital intercom.      KIDDING!!   He is extremely professional and very sensitive to our insecurities about the number.  All he told my DH after my surgery is that I was everything went great and that I was out and talking gibberish to the nurses.   You do have to weigh a lot in the hospital.  Sadly, the weight seems to go up after surgery, but that is to be expected considering the amount of IV fluid they are pumping into you.   You just have to let it go.  It's just a number.  Who cares??  You are fixing it, right?  I can totally relate to you because I was EXTRMELY embarassed to say that I weighed 311 big ones!  Now, it's just the past.  You will lose your anxiety about this as time goes on.
