I have to echo what everyone else has said. I had lap RNY on 7/13/07 and am down 80 pounds and have hit a couple of little speed bumps along the way. It seems I have an ulcer that I take prevacid for 2 times a day. I also had an internal hernia (also known as kinky bowel syndrome) that he repaired about 10 days ago. I think the ulcer got irratated a little from the messing with the intestines that had gotten pinched somehow because the ulcer is feeling worse now. He told me to go back to eating 3 ounces and that is helping. I was at the 5 ounce level before all this happened. But even with all this I think he is just the greatest.

Dave, I'm sorry that it took me so long to send this message, but I just read your message since I have been out of state until yesterday. Believe me....you are getting one of the best!!!  I had him 11 yrs. ago for a VBG surgery and had no complications.  I did gain about 40 of my 80 lbs. back.  I had him again for a revision surgery from VBG to RNY.  I did have some problems after my surgery, but no fault of his.  He was really stumped because my kidneys were shutting down.  We pretty much decided that I was probably dehydrated when I had my surgery.  Neither one of us realized it at the time.  Make sure you do get alot of liquids in the 2 days before your surgery.  Are you having yours done at Clarian or St. Vincent?  I had mine done at Clarian and the Bariatric center there requires 2 days of clear liquids and I just didn't get enough in.  As long as you get enough liquids in you won't have any problems with the kidneys, I'm sure.   He is a quiet man, but very good.  He does listen to you and definitely knows what he's doing.  He only took an hour with my 2nd surgery and an hour and 1/2 with the first one.  Everyone gets nervous, but you are in good hands. Candy,  I'm having this done ( lap RNY ) March 20, @ St. Vincent's.  I feel so  relieved that  all my replies  regarding DR. HUSE has been positive.  I  think  I'm  concerned more about the  post -op  lifestyle changes, than I am the surgery itself . I'm looking forward to going to any common store to buy my clothes. My wife and I worry when we fly,  and if  they  were to lose our luggage, we just can't pop into Walmart and  make it happen. I was  at a resturant  a few months back with our family and friends, and  the server spilled five tall glasses of pop on me. She offered to give me a new shirt,      ( XL  was the biggest)  but I told forget it  that would be like a strait jacket on me. those our the kinds of  things we deal with and most people have no clue.                Thanks for your reply,                     Dave

Dave,  You're lucky that you can have a lap RNY......mine had to be open because of the open surgery (which is all they did then) I had 11 yrs. ago.

The post-op lifestyle changes are not always easy, but it is worth it.  I'm still dealing with them alot of the time.  I just got back from Florida with my 2 sister-in-laws.  We visited one of their daughter's.  They stopped at Dairy Queen and got ice cream one day.  Of course I love Snicker Blizzards!  I shouldn't have had any ice cream, but I got a kid's size cup of ice cream, and didn't eat it all.  After a certain point I don't think it hurts to do that once in awhile, but not to do it often.  Next Monday it will be 12 weeks since my surgery.  For the most part I'm doing great sticking to the eating plan.  While I was gone I took a bite of something here or there of things I shouldn't have yet, but I didn't have much.  I still lost 6 more lbs. Drinking cokes is still something that I'd really like to do, but since I went to Clarian, it's a no-no.  St. Vincent's I think is a little more liberal on that.  After a certain amount of time (6 months or 1 yr.) I've heard that they let you drink diet cokes again, but Clarian doesn't because they say that you can enlarge your pouch by drinking carbonated drinks.   You are right that most people have no clue what we deal with.   It was nice talking to you and good luck on your surgery.  Don't forget to let us all know how you're doing after your surgery.                                              Candy
